Tencent Video, a popular streaming platform in China, has introduced a 24/7 channel called “PetTV” dedicated to entertaining cats and dogs.
Pet owners in China are known for spending generously on their pets. They typically spend around 2,000 to 3,000 yuan a year (about $300 to $430) on their dogs and cats. The Chinese pet market is expected to be worth 405 billion yuan (approximately $58 billion) by 2028.
Tencent Video, a leading streaming platform in China, reports that two-thirds of dog owners turn on the TV for their pets when they’re away. To cater to this trend, Tencent Video has introduced “PetTV,” a dedicated service designed to keep pets entertained while their owners are out.
Tencent Video described it as a “24-hour happiness hub for your furry kids”
Tencent Video is experimenting with a special version of its platform designed for pets. Recognizing that animals perceive things differently than humans, they’ve adjusted things like the colors, how quickly the screen updates, and the sounds to better suit dogs and cats. The content includes videos of things pets enjoy, such as ducklings playing or dogs exploring their surroundings.
This programming is designed to keep pets entertained and happy. It’s organized by breed or even by what mood your pet is in. For example, the ‘relaxation series’ uses soothing videos and gentle music to help calm anxious animals, and the ‘stimulation series’ provides engaging content to keep them mentally active and playful.

Tencent Video subscribers get round-the-clock access to a variety of shows and movies, including both locally produced content and programs from other providers, like the American channel DogTV.
