It’s always disappointing when great characters leave a TV show before it ends, and that’s happening with Dr. Samira Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) on HBO’s medical drama, The Pitt. With her departure after season two, fans are wondering what the show will be like next season and are already sad to see such a smart and capable doctor go.
Many viewers likely expected Mohan to stay on The Pitt for the whole series, or at least another season, since she’s been part of the show from the beginning. Her character’s journey – exploring big ambitions and self-belief in a challenging, high-pressure environment – has been particularly compelling. With the news that Mohan will only appear in two more episodes, fans are now wondering what this means for the show’s future.
‘The Pitt’ Season 3’s Update Proves That Some Characters Will Leave, For Better or Worse

We’re sad to see any of the doctors we love leave The Pitt, but it’s understandable that not everyone can stay with the show for its entire run. The possibility of losing these characters adds tension and makes each scene more meaningful. This actually sets The Pitt apart from typical medical dramas, where you generally expect to see the same faces season after season. While Grey’s Anatomy has certainly seen characters come and go, and some have even died or moved away, we’ve usually had the chance to watch the core group of doctors for several years, allowing us to really connect with them.
It’s natural for characters to come and go on The Pitt, and that includes making difficult career choices. As Dr. Mohan and other young professionals find their footing, it makes sense they might switch specialties, move within the hospital, or even take jobs elsewhere. This feels true to life, which is why we enjoy The Pitt so much. It would be less believable if characters stayed in roles without logical reasons.
Dr. Mohan leaving after Season 2 of The Pitt could also be seen as a concern. It raises the possibility that other characters might leave the show in the future, which could be problematic. If a character doesn’t get enough development in one season and then isn’t brought back, that would be a letdown. However, if a character like Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa) were to leave, it could feel like a natural conclusion to her story. She’s had a compelling journey as a supportive mentor while also considering her own career path. (Of course, losing Dana would be terrible, so let’s hope that doesn’t happen.)
Mohan has been a highlight of the show’s second season, which hasn’t always been as strong as the first. Her storyline dealing with anxiety is particularly well-done, realistic, and meaningful. It shows viewers that it’s okay to struggle, even if you appear to have it all together, like a successful doctor. Knowing she’s leaving makes us consider the impact she’ll have on Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, and hopefully, she’s encouraged her colleagues to be open about their own difficulties and seek support. It will be fascinating to see how Season 3 of The Pitt continues to address mental health, a theme that’s been important since the beginning. While Dr. Robby has been focusing on his own mental well-being, Mohan’s story has added another important dimension to the conversation.
Could More Characters Leave Before ‘The Pitt’ Season 3?

With Dr. Mohan’s departure from The Pitt, it’s likely other staff members might also be considering new opportunities. Both Dr. Mohan and Victoria Javadi (played by Shabana Azeez) have recently been thinking about what they want to do next in their careers.
Taylor Deardon recently shared her hopes for the future of her character, Dr. Mel King, on the show. She seems optimistic about returning for another season, telling Us Weekly:
We’re hoping to see Mel develop deeper friendships in the upcoming seasons. The goal is to explore what those friendships look like for her, particularly in seasons 2 and 3. Ultimately, we want Mel to have strong, meaningful connections with others.
As of now, we don’t know which actors will be back for future seasons. But there’s some positive news: according to Variety, Ayesha Harris has been promoted to a series regular. This likely means her character, Dr. Parker Ellis, will have a more significant storyline. Even if some fan favorites depart, the show’s excellent writing and performances give us confidence that the remaining characters will still be compelling and keep us engaged.
As a huge fan of The Pitt, all that’s left now is to watch the final two episodes of Season 2! I’m really hoping for a happy ending for everyone, especially Dr. Mohan – he deserves it. And honestly, I need to know what happened with the baby. Fingers crossed for a satisfying conclusion!
