Tickets for the 2026 World Cup final could reach $11,000, as FIFA increased prices during a recent sales period that experienced several technical problems.
The World Cup in the USA is just over two months away, and after the recent play-off matches, all 48 participating teams have been confirmed.
FIFA began selling tickets again on Wednesday, but the launch was troubled. Fans reported broken links that sent them to incorrect pages, and ticket prices quickly increased dramatically.
FIFA raises ticket prices for 2026 World Cup
When World Cup groups were initially announced in December, the most expensive tickets to the final cost around $8,680. Now, tickets for the July 19th game are going for as much as $10,990.
The best seats near the field are going for the highest price, but even less desirable seats further away still cost a hefty $7,380. That’s a significant increase from just four months ago when those same tickets were $5,575.
The least expensive Super Bowl tickets, located in the highest seats at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, are now priced as high as $5,785, up from $4,185 in December.
For comparison, tickets to the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar were only around $1,600.
World Cup website encounters technical issues
Beyond the high cost of tickets, FIFA also made it difficult for fans to actually find and buy them. The website didn’t clearly show which tickets were available, forcing people to search individually for games and hope they were included in the next round of sales.
So, I was trying to get tickets on the FIFA website, and it was totally messed up! It kept sending me to a sale for the teams that just qualified through the playoffs – like, if you hadn’t qualified yet, you were out of luck. Thankfully, they fixed it by Wednesday afternoon, but honestly, they didn’t even know why it happened in the first place. Pretty frustrating for a lot of us trying to snag tickets!
More tickets for other games will become available gradually as the tournament approaches.
FIFA now lets fans pick specific seats instead of just general areas. However, they’re facing criticism for using a pricing system where ticket costs have changed dramatically in recent months.
