In the fifth episode of Invincible Season 4, Mark faces off against Conquest (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) again, leading to a particularly brutal and bloody fight. Fans are wondering if Mark survives this rematch – and the comic books actually reveal what happens to him after the intense battle.
Mark and Conquest first clashed near the end of Season 3, right after the Invincible War. Their fight was long and brutal, ultimately ending with Mark defeating Conquest by repeatedly striking his head until it broke through.
The Season 4 premiere ended with a surprising reveal: Conquest had recovered while imprisoned by the Global Defense Agency. His eventual escape from Cecil’s facility made a rematch between Invincible and Conquest inevitable.
The fight between Invincible and Conquest in Season 4, Episode 5 was incredibly violent. Conquest punched through Mark’s stomach, even pulling out his intestines, while Mark ultimately strangled him to death. Though Mark won, fans are wondering if he’ll survive a rematch. The answer can be found in the original comic book by Robert Kirkman.
Does Mark survive Invincible vs Conquest 2?

The battle between Invincible and Conquest begins near the end of issue #71 of the comic, but the main fight happens in issue #72. It concludes with a brutal scene: Mark defeats Conquest by choking him, even as Conquest is tearing Mark’s insides out. Although Mark wins, he suffers severe injuries and spends several months recovering, a process detailed in issues #73 and #74.
In Invincible #73, Omni-Man and Oliver care for a badly injured Mark on an alien planet. They use Omni-Man’s cape to bandage his wounds after putting his internal organs back in place. They shelter him in a cave while he recovers. Because Mark is part-Viltrumite, he heals quickly, but even with his enhanced abilities, the severe injury takes a considerable amount of time to mend.
Omni-Man hunts and kills animals for food on the planet. To keep Mark hydrated without him being able to swallow the tough meat, Omni-Man squeezes some of the juice from the meat into Mark’s mouth.
Throughout the entire issue, he remains unconscious, allowing Omni-Man and Oliver to truly connect with each other. This focus on character development, alongside the intense action, is a key reason why Invincible is such a captivating superhero story.

As Omni-Man and Oliver wait for Mark to recover, a fierce war continues between the Coalition of Planets and the Viltrum Empire. The Viltrumites attack Talescria, the Coalition’s home planet. The fighting takes a dangerous turn when they bomb the Coalition headquarters, with Thaedus and Allen the Alien trapped inside.
Mark thankfully pulls through at the beginning of Invincible #74, and he joins the other heroes to prevent the Viltrumites from destroying Earth. This event really highlights Mark’s incredible power – he defeats a very powerful Viltrumite, recovers from his injuries, and still manages to save the world. Given how closely the animated series has followed the comic book storyline, it’s probable that Season 4 will adapt the issues following the “Invincible vs. Conquest 2” arc.

Viewers were shocked by how the show portrayed the violent fight. One fan posted on X, simply saying, “Mark vs Conquest round 2. I’m speechless,” while another admitted they weren’t prepared for how graphic and intense it was.
One viewer felt the rematch surpassed the original comic version, and another declared it superior to the first fight, stating that despite being much shorter, the second battle between Mark and Conquest was more impressive.
Some viewers weren’t thrilled with the violent scene, with one person saying they expected it to be longer and include more conversation between the characters, Conquest, Mark, and even Nolan. They felt the scene could have been more developed.
The sixth episode of Invincible Season 4 will be available on Prime Video on April 8th. While you wait, you can enjoy the soundtrack from all four seasons of the show, explore information about the now-unavailable episodes (often referred to as “lost media”), and find out what’s known about a possible Invincible movie.
