Anne Hathaway has a busy year ahead with big films like Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. However, industry insiders are particularly excited about her upcoming independent film, Mother Mary. Directed by David Lowery (known for The Green Knight), the movie is described as both deeply moving and powerfully captivating. The trailer features a voiceover by Michaela Coel, Hathaway’s co-star, who says, “You are standing under the lights…You are doing what you’re born to do,” while Hathaway, sporting striking bleached eyebrows, looks at her reflection. Interspersed with these scenes are clips of Hathaway performing an original song for the film, “My Mouth Is Lonely for You,” written by the acclaimed artist FKA twigs.
The trailer takes a dark turn near the end, hinting at horror. Coel delivers the line, “We’re reinventing you,” immediately followed by a loud thunderclap and a disturbing image of a hand being cut open. We then see Hathaway running down a hallway. It all adds up to a chaotic, high-energy scene!
The film Mother Mary features Hunter Schafer, Kaia Gerber, and Atheena Frizzell alongside FKA Twigs. Charli XCX and Jack Antonoff collaborated on the music. It will be released in theaters this April, and the tagline promises it arrives ‘in your darkest hour, to eat.’
