Jack Quaid says that when The Boys concludes in May, not all of the characters will have satisfying conclusions to their stories.
The popular superhero show The Boys will conclude after its fifth season. The first two episodes of season 5 will be available on Prime Video starting April 8th, and the final episode will air on May 20th.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie Campbell on The Boys, said the show won’t have a typical happy ending like many other superhero series. He hinted that some characters will die, describing the upcoming events as “crazy” and “really, really nuts.”
It was really moving to watch beloved characters die in The Boys, and it’s tough to see the show, which he’s dedicated years to, come to an end.
Quaid thought the whole experience was incredibly strange. While shooting the last season, he was completely covered in fake blood and slime, and then asked to act as if it bothered him.
Cameron Quaid, known for his work in films and TV shows like The Hunger Games, Star Trek: Lower Decks, the 2022 Scream movie, and Oppenheimer, shared that working on The Boys has “been the honor of my life.” He added that he “truly loves the show and everyone involved.”
Absolutely not. It’s going to be The Boys, and it won’t have a happy ending. This is the last season, and we truly mean it – some characters will die, and it’s going to be intense and shocking.
Let me tell you, filming the final scenes was incredibly emotional. It sounds strange, but I spent so much time covered in fake blood and goo throughout the series, and to be feeling genuinely sad while covered in it all was a really surreal experience. I kept thinking, ‘I’m really going to miss this!’ Honestly, it’s been the biggest honor of my career, and I truly love the show and everyone who worked on it.
Originally a comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, launched in 2006, The Boys faced several failed attempts at becoming a movie. Eventually, Prime Video obtained the rights and released the TV show in 2019, where it quickly gained popularity and positive feedback.
All seasons of The Boys have received positive reviews. Ratings on Rotten Tomatoes range from 85% for the first season to as high as 97% and 98% for seasons two and three. The latest season currently has a 93% critics’ score.
This show flips the superhero genre on its head by exploring the dark side of power and the pursuit of fame. It’s received critical acclaim, including nominations for Emmys and SAG Awards, and has already won several Creative Arts Emmys for its outstanding stunts and original music.
Besides Karl Quaid, the cast of The Boys includes Karl Urban, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Jensen Ackles, Claudia Doumit, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Daveed Diggs.
In 2024, Prime Video revealed that the popular show The Boys would be ending with one last season. Filming for this final season took place from late 2024 into early 2025.
Even after the main series finishes in May, the world of The Boys will continue. Amazon’s Prime Video has already released two spin-off shows, Diabolical and Gen V, and more are on the way. These include Vought Rising, which has just finished filming, and The Boys: Mexico.
The Boys season 5 premieres Wednesday, April 8 on Prime Video.
