Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 2 & 3 recap – Matt wages war on the AVTF

This week, Marvel and Disney released two new episodes of Daredevil: Born Again at once. In episodes 2 and 3, Matt Murdock (played by Charlie Cox) takes the fight to the AVTF in their own territory.

The season’s first episode focused on showing how Daredevil and Karen Page have been secretly fighting back against Mayor Kingpin. Kingpin is increasing his control over New York City, essentially using a special task force to act as his own personal army.

Beyond that, anyone suspected of being a vigilante is kidnapped and held captive, and then subjected to unfair, staged trials. This is a challenge Jack Duquesne, also known as Swordsman (played by Tony Dalton), faces in the second episode…

It doesn’t take long for Daredevil to decide he needs to confront the AVTF head-on, and the third episode provides a satisfying conclusion. Here’s a recap of what happened in the second and third episodes of Born Again Season 2.

Born Again Season 2 Episode 2 recap: Kingpin makes life harder for Matt, Bullseye helps Cherry escape the AVTF

After being injured in the attack by the AVTF at the end of the last episode, Cherry is recovering in the hospital. Meanwhile, Bullseye goes to a church seen in the previous Netflix series, hoping to find “Sister Maggie.” He learns she’s currently in Rome. For those who remember, Sister Maggie is Matt’s mother, who left him when he was young due to her feelings of guilt about leaving her life as a nun.

In a chilling scene, he confesses to the priest, saying, “Father, I need forgiveness. I’ve betrayed others and myself…” Immediately after, the church is filled with eerie blue light, reminiscent of scenes from both the first season and the original Netflix series.

Could this be the start of a change for Bullseye? It’s possible. He continues his violent streak by killing even more AVTF agents who try to stop Cherry from leaving the hospital later in the episode.

Fisk is preparing for his upcoming fight while secretly planning revenge on Daredevil. He’s keeping Matt Murdock’s identity a secret, believing that convincing people about the blind lawyer from Hell’s Kitchen—the one who once saved him—wouldn’t be easy.

He launches a city-wide marketing campaign featuring missing person posters for Matt, pretending to search for him after his disappearance at the end of last season. This is a clever tactic that makes the Mayor look good while still creating problems for the hero.

Adding to the complications, someone is creating parody broadcasts mocking Fisk’s actions. His assistant, Sheila, suspects Daniel Blake of being the source of the leaks, but he insists he’s not involved. However, he’s later caught copying footage from the Northern Star, and Fisk directly threatens him about the information getting out. It’s a messy situation.

In Season 2, Episode 2 of Born Again, we see Angela del Toro (Camila Rodriguez) beginning her journey as the new White Tiger. The episode shows her with Aunt Soledad (Ashley Marie Ortiz) in a corner store when the owner confronts some teenagers who are stealing, pulling a gun on them.

When the AVTF shows up, they violently attack the building’s owner and a young teenager, and they even arrest Soledad. This leads to widespread riots as the neighborhood fights back against Fisk’s control. Determined to stop him, Angela seeks out White Tiger’s amulet from Kirsten McDuffie.

Karen and Matt share a quiet dance in their loft above Josie’s bar, but their peaceful moment is interrupted by a loud siren. Agents from the AVTF raid the bar to arrest Josie, and Matt quickly jumps into action, fighting them off.

He surprised two officers by shining a shotgun at their faces, momentarily blinding them and making them believe he was going to fire. Instead, he shot the ceiling and then violently attacked both of them.

Okay, so after getting Josie to safety, Matt and I raced to Frank Castle’s old hideout. That’s where Karen dropped a bombshell – she’d actually taken an AVTF agent hostage! It’s becoming really clear she’s willing to do some seriously questionable things to try and beat Kingpin, and honestly, it’s a little unsettling but I get why she’s desperate.

Born Again Season 2 Episode 3 recap: Daredevil stages an AVTF prison break

Okay, so that agent Karen grabbed in episode two? Turns out he might actually be on our side! He told us he wants to join the resistance, which was a relief. But I was super worried it was a trap set by Fisk, so I listened really closely to his heartbeat – yeah, it sounds weird, but it’s how I check if people are lying! Thankfully, it seemed like he was being honest. He even gave us a keycard to the Red Hook prison, which is huge!

Heather Glenn, still haunted by past events and using the Muse persona, continues to grapple with her trauma. She also clashes with McDuffie, debating whether vigilantes can truly be forces for good.

Heather believes Muse nearly killed her, and she thinks masks allow people to act on their aggressive impulses. This is why she’s so determined to win against Jack, also known as Swordsman, during the trials.

McDuffie travels to Red Hook for a private meeting with Jack. On the way, Cole North from the AVTF treats her very poorly, practically rushing her through the prison. Once she finally meets with Jack, they talk about the weak evidence against him, but they both realize it won’t change anything.

Jack suggests that in Fisk’s New York, simply being accused of a crime is often enough for a conviction, as Fisk rules the city with absolute power. This idea creates tension between Karen and Matt, who disagree about whether or not to kill Kingpin.

Karen urges Matt to consider taking matters into his own hands, but while Matt acknowledges he thinks about it constantly, he’s holding onto the hope that the justice system still works. He feels stopping the perpetrator is the furthest they should go. Ultimately, Matt boils it down to one question: would killing the person bring Foggy back? The answer is no, making it clear that murder isn’t the solution.

The Swordsman’s trial has concluded, and he was convicted of breaking the rules against street vigilantism and defying Fisk’s laws. As expected, he’s returned to Red Hook prison, but Daredevil quickly rescues him. Daredevil used information from McDuffie about the prison’s layout and even listened for a watch he’d previously hidden inside a weapons container on the Northern Star to help with the escape.

After freeing all the prisoners, he joins forces with Jack for an impressively filmed, continuous-shot fight against the guards. Seeing the hero rescue innocent people from captivity is deeply rewarding and will likely remind viewers of current events.

Luckily, Matt has help during his attack on the AVTF prison. Angela del Toro arrives in a White Tiger costume – a modified version of her uncle’s – and assists Karen in stealing a military truck to free the prisoners.

Fisk, always the cunning strategist, manages to twist things around and make Daredevil look guilty. He bombs the Northern Star, tragically killing the overnight staff, and immediately uses the timing of a recent prison break to frame Daredevil for the explosion and the resulting deaths. While Daredevil may have done the right thing by freeing innocent people, Fisk has cleverly swayed public opinion against him. It’s a tough situation.

As we await the next installment of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 to see what happens with Matt, here’s a look at what the show’s creator shared about plans for Season 3, Jessica Jones’ return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a preview of the TV shows we’re most excited about in 2026.
