Taika Waititi Wants To Develop Adaptation Of Major Game Studio’s Library

Once Taika Waititi finished writing the short film introducing the character Najia, he said he’d like to create similar adaptations for other characters from the game Brawl Stars.

As a critic, I’ve been consistently impressed with Taika Waititi’s work. He really made his mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the incredibly fun Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder. But he’s not just a superhero director – his film Jojo Rabbit was brilliant and even earned him an Oscar for its screenplay! Now, he’s flexing his storytelling muscles in a new direction, having written the story for a new animated short based on the popular video game Brawl Stars, introducing the character Najia. It’s fascinating to see his creative range extend to different mediums.

Taika Waititi recently told ScreenRant that he hasn’t decided which character from Brawl Stars he’d like to create another short film about. He shared that he’s been enjoying playing Frank in the game and jokingly suggested a short based on him, referencing the many Frankenstein-inspired movies out there.

He’s generally more enthusiastic about ongoing collaboration with the game developers than concentrating on a single character. He’s also suggested he’d like to create more substantial content, moving beyond brief promotional pieces like the introduction of Najia. You can find his complete statement below.

It’s hard to say for sure. There are a lot of characters to keep track of! I’ve been focusing on Frank lately, and it’s amusing that a story about him is happening while so many Frankenstein movies are being released. [Laughs] Ultimately, I’m not certain what’s next, but I’m eager to develop these characters further, perhaps in a longer format like a series or novel.

What Is Brawl Stars?

Brawl Stars is a mobile game created by Supercell, launched in 2018 for both iPhones and Android phones. It combines the excitement of battle royale with hero shooter action, letting you choose from many different characters called Brawlers, each with their own special skills and ways to play. Players jump into quick matches with various goals, like team fights or trying to be the last one standing, all presented with bright and cartoonish graphics.

Taika Waititi, known for his work in film, helped create the story for a new character in the popular mobile game Brawl Stars. The character, Najia, is the 101st playable hero, and the trailer, “Najia knows the way out!”, showcases her as a clever, long-distance fighter who loves solving puzzles. Waititi also teased another upcoming character, Frank, a monster inspired by Frankenstein, who will be the toughest character in the game thanks to his massive health and powerful hammer.

Could There Be A Brawl Stars Movie?

Taika Waititi is open to working on longer projects, and because he enjoys playing Brawl Stars, he’d be a great choice to direct a movie or TV show based on the game. Although nothing is confirmed yet, Supercell has recently been hiring people with experience in film, leading fans to speculate that a Brawl Stars adaptation might be in the works, similar to the successful Minecraft Movie and other adaptations of video games.

Most of the backstory and details about Brawl Stars have been revealed through short animated videos, which suggests the game would be a great fit for a full-length movie or TV series.
