The Food and Drug Administration is recalling a large number of chocolate products sold by an adult novelty company because they contain dangerously high levels of drugs typically used to treat erectile dysfunction.
In mid-March 2026, Gear Isle, a California company selling adult novelty items, announced a recall of two of its products: Gold Lion Aphrodisiac Chocolate and Ilum Sex Chocolate, both marketed as male enhancement supplements.
These aren’t just ordinary chocolates. While chocolate is often thought to boost romance, these specific ones actually contain ingredients designed to enhance physical intimacy.
These products were discovered to have sildenafil and tadalafil in them, even though these ingredients weren’t listed on the label. Both sildenafil and tadalafil are used in medications for erectile dysfunction, such as Cialis and Viagra.

Recalled chocolate poses “life-threatening” risks
So, I was reading up on this, and the FDA put out a warning on March 19th about some ingredients in certain products. Apparently, they can be really dangerous because they can mess with your blood pressure, especially if you’re taking heart medication like nitroglycerin. Basically, the combination could cause a huge drop in blood pressure, and that could be life-threatening. It’s definitely something to be careful about!
These products are designed for men. The FDA warns that men with heart conditions who take nitrates may be particularly vulnerable to health problems if they eat these chocolates.
According to research from Urologic Surgeons of Washington, the most frequent side effects of sildenafil include headaches, nausea, facial flushing, nasal congestion, upset stomach, and dizziness. Some people also report temporarily seeing a bluish tint.

As a fan who’s looked into this, it seems tadalafil can have similar side effects to other medications, but it also comes with some extra possibilities like back pain, a cough, or just feeling generally unwell with things like a cold.
I was really relieved to hear that Gear Isle, the online chocolate shop, is handling this recall so well! They ship all over the country, and thankfully, no one has reported feeling sick from their chocolates yet. Plus, they’re offering full refunds to anyone who bought the recalled products, which is great to see.
Recent news includes another large food recall: 36 million pounds of rice were pulled from shelves after customers reported finding glass in their food, following a similar recall in March 2026.
