A former classmate of popular YouTuber Tzuyang was fined 7 million won for falsely claiming she gets sick after making mukbang videos.
Tzuyang is a hugely popular online personality in South Korea, known for her “mukbang” videos – where she films herself eating large amounts of food. She has over 13 million followers and has become famous for reportedly eating up to 30,000 calories daily.
In 2020, a former classmate allegedly told another YouTuber that they saw Tzuyang vomit after filming a video of herself eating a large pasta meal. This claim was false.
The YouTuber revealed this information in 2024, which prompted Tzuyang’s agency to take legal action. Now, six years after the initial incident, the classmate involved has been ordered to pay a substantial fine under Korean law for defamation.
Tzuyang’s former classmate fined 7M won for false mukbang rumors
On March 30th, Judge Kim Jae-hak at the Seoul Central District Court ordered a fine of 7 million won – about $4,500 – in a recent ruling.
So, my old classmate originally claimed she was being truthful, but it turns out an investigation showed she didn’t actually meet Tzuyang on the same day she filmed that famous mukbang! It’s pretty shocking to find out things weren’t as she said.

Additionally, other witnesses who were present disputed the claims.
I remember when this creator dealt with legal trouble before! It was with a YouTuber nicknamed ‘foot-and-mouth disease’ – he tried to blackmail her out of a huge amount of money, like tens of millions of won. Thankfully, he ended up getting three years in prison for it.
Tzuyang’s videos often spark online discussion, with people wondering how anyone can eat such large amounts of food and concerns raised about the potential dangers, including reports of deaths connected to similar online content. Mukbang, the genre of eating shows, has always been controversial, with some creators being accused of faking their eating or secretly throwing food away.
