At Tokyo Game Show 2025, Konami shared more information about the upcoming anime based on Suikoden II, officially titled Suikoden: The Anime. The presentation focused on announcing the Japanese voice actors for the main characters, but the biggest reveal was a change to the protagonist’s name. Previously known as Riou, he will now be called Riliu in the anime.
The event revealed the origin of the name Riliu. It comes from a Japanese interpretation of a line from the writings of the Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi: *Riryou Ganka no Tama* (Pearl Under the Black Dragon’s Chin). This phrase signifies something valuable that can only be earned through great risk.
Konami also announced the Japanese voice actors for the five main characters in the upcoming Suikoden anime, set to premiere in 2026. Notably, Katsuyuki Konishi and Yuichi Nakamura will continue to voice Viktor and Flik, respectively, in the Suikoden Star Leap game as well.

Just so you know, the main character from Suikoden II isn’t the only one getting a different official name. A live-action stage play of the original Suikoden will be performed in Tokyo and Kyoto this December. While most fans know the hero as Tir McDohl, the stage play will refer to him as Rean McDohl.
