The X-Files Reboot Gets Update as Gillian Anderson Addresses Scully Return Talks

Although Hulu removed Buffy the Vampire Slayer, they’re developing a new version of another popular show. A reboot has been planned for several years and will be led by Academy Award-winning director Ryan Coogler.

Currently, only one actor has been confirmed for the reboot, taking on a leading role. However, Gillian Anderson, famous for playing Dana Scully in the original series, has expressed strong interest in returning. She recently told journalist Dory Jackson at Awesome Con that she thought the script for the new pilot was “really good.”

She reiterated that she’s discussed a potential return with Ryan Coogler. “We’ve spoken a couple of times,” she said. “He’s incredibly talented and a great person, and the script for the pilot episode is excellent.”

Anderson encouraged people to approach the project with an open mind, predicting it would be really impressive. He emphasized that it’s unique and worth a chance, asking for patience and understanding.

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny starred in The X-Files. Anderson appeared throughout the show’s entire run, but Duchovny left after Season 7. He made a brief return in Season 8 and was a main cast member again for the show’s revival, which began with Season 10 in 2016, and continued through Season 11.

While Hulu hasn’t confirmed a new season of The X-Files just yet, recent reports indicate they’re planning to shoot through June. Filming will occur in Vancouver, Canada – a fitting location, as the original series filmed its first five seasons there.

The latest report details character descriptions for a new TV pilot, and casting calls are open for five roles. The show is looking for actors to play Salkow, a ten-year-old girl who is the daughter of a former biker; Willie, a man in his thirties who is biracial; Jenn, a woman in her thirties who is Indigenous; Julie, an Indigenous woman in her sixties; and Cimisah, an Indigenous woman in her thirties.

The new version of The X-Files will center around two FBI agents – both skilled, but with very different approaches – who are paired together to reopen a previously closed unit that investigates strange and unexplainable events. They’ll form an unexpected connection as they work on these unusual cases.
