A recently discovered report shares the first information about a virtual reality Breaking Bad game that was in development for PlayStation, but was later cancelled.
During the 2010s, Breaking Bad became a massive hit, earning high praise from critics. The show, which followed Walter White’s journey into the drug trade, led to several partnerships, the popular spin-off series Better Call Saul, and a follow-up movie.
Despite having a mobile game, we’ve never seen a complete video game based in the world created by Vince Gilligan.

Report reveals first details about Breaking Bad VR game
MP1st discovered that Firesprite, the studio behind Horizon Call of the Mountain, was secretly developing a Breaking Bad VR game. Development on the unnamed project started around 2017 or 2018.
The project was envisioned as more of an interactive story than a complete game. This approach was typical in the early days of virtual reality, where developers frequently used popular franchises to demonstrate the potential of the new technology with short, focused experiences.
The report suggests the game would have included famous settings from the show, like Walter White’s backyard and the New Mexico desert. While it wasn’t officially stated, players would probably have controlled Bryan Cranston’s character, Walt.
Despite never having an official announcement or trailer, a Breaking Bad VR game was mentioned several times over the years. Back in 2017, Variety reported it was being developed, but Vince Gilligan later confirmed in 2022 that the project was cancelled.
He explained on the Inside the Gilliverse podcast that a huge amount of work and time went into the project. Developing new virtual reality experiences, he said, requires years of effort and millions of dollars, and it’s disappointing that it didn’t succeed.
During the same interview, Gilligan mentioned they were developing ideas for three or four different video games, including a virtual reality title. However, none of these ideas progressed beyond the initial planning phase, meaning fans will have to continue waiting for a complete Breaking Bad video game.
