New R-Rated Remake Of 21-Year-Old Horror Thriller Finally Releases On Hulu Next Month

Hulu is about to make a killing next month.

The 2026 Academy Awards are over, and it was a night full of big wins, unexpected moments, and plenty of buzz. The biggest shock of the evening was Michael B. Jordan winning Best Actor for Sinners, as many predicted Timothée Chalamet would take home the award for Marty Supreme. The surprises actually began before the show even started.

Okay, let’s talk Oscars. Every year there are surprises, and this year’s no different. I was genuinely shocked that No Other Choice, a really wild and thought-provoking South Korean thriller from 2025, didn’t get a single nomination. It’s an R-rated film that tackles capitalism in a completely bizarre, but effective, way. Thankfully, it looks like more people are going to have a chance to see it now, and I highly recommend checking it out.

The movie No Other Choice will begin streaming on Hulu in the U.S. on April 24th. It’s one of several new titles coming to the service next month, along with all four Hunger Games films, the action movie Primitive War, the mystery A Haunting In Venice, and other exciting content.

The film No Other Choice is adapted from Donald Westlake’s 1997 thriller, The Ax. However, it isn’t the first time this story has been made into a movie. In 2005, The Axe was released, starring José Garcia, who is well-known for voicing Mushu in Mulan and Bruno in Encanto.

I was so excited when they brought the story back to the big screen after 21 years! The remake was definitely for mature audiences, and it ended up making almost $40 million at the box office. Considering it only cost around $12 million to make, it actually did pretty well – they needed about $24 to $30 million to cover costs, so it was a success! And now, even more people will get to see it when it hits Hulu in April, which is awesome.

In the film No Other Choice, Lee Byung-hun – known for his role as the Front Man in Squid Game – plays Yoo Man-su. Man-su loses his job when the successful papermaking company he works for merges with another. He’s a top performer in his field and determined to maintain his family’s comfortable lifestyle despite the setback.

After struggling to regain his former success, Man-su resorts to extreme measures: eliminating his professional rivals. The film, “No Other Choice,” has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, earning a 97% score from critics and a 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by the acclaimed Park Chan-wook, known for “Oldboy,” this R-rated thriller is a highly recommended watch on Hulu this April.
