Where is Van Kull? How Peacemaker Season 2 teases Man of Tomorrow

Okay, so Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 6 just dropped a massive DCU cameo! It seriously feels like it’s setting up something huge for the future of the DC Universe. And honestly, the way they’re handling Van Kull? It’s making me think he might be a hint at what’s coming with Superman – maybe a precursor to ‘Man of Tomorrow’ or something!

Peacemaker isn’t for everyone – the first episode included mature content, making it unsuitable for children. While you don’t need to see it before watching ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow,’ the show’s second season will connect to future Superman stories.

The groundwork for future storylines was laid in Episode 6 with a key appearance by Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. In the episode, Rick Flag visits Luthor in Belle Reve prison, seeking his assistance in locating Peacemaker, who is trapped in another dimension.

As a thank you for working with him, Flag informed Sasha Bordeaux that Lex would be moved to Van Kull prison.

What is Van Kull?

In the comic books, Van Kull is a highly secure prison situated near Metropolis. It first appeared in *The Power Company: Bork* #1, published in 2002.

Van Kull hasn’t always been located where we see it now. In the TV show *Supergirl*, for instance, it was situated in National City, California. But since Van Kull is currently being used as leverage in dealings with Lex Luthor, it’s likely its current location is nearer to Metropolis than to Belle Reve.

Lex complained to Flag about being stuck in prison with other people who have superpowers. Flag offered to see if Lex could be moved to a different prison-one without any metahumans.

An agreement is made: Lex will apparently be moved to Van Kull and will work with A.R.G.U.S. to locate Chris.

How Van Kull sets up Man of Tomorrow

The brief appearances of Van Kull and Lex Luthor hint at what’s coming in ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ where Lex and Superman are predicted to team up and battle the powerful Braniac.

The situation presents a chance for Lex to turn things around. If he joins forces with Superman, even just for a while, he could become even more powerful than he was before his arrest.

In an interview with The Ringer, James Gunn explained that he’s particularly focused on exploring Lex Luthor’s character and understanding his role in the larger story.

I’d like to explore Lex as a person beyond just his villainous side. We’ve seen how evil he can be, but I find him a really compelling character. Despite all his flaws, there’s something surprisingly heroic about him.

The new film, Man of Tomorrow, is scheduled to come out on July 9, 2027. While you wait, you can check out the music from Peacemaker Season 2 and learn about the reason for the casting change of the original Vigilante character.
