Dune Part 3 trailer sees Timothée Chalamet take over the universe

The initial trailer for Dune: Part Three, directed by Denis Villeneuve, depicts Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides leading a galactic war. It also gives a quick glimpse of Robert Pattinson’s character, the new villain Scytale.

The third Dune film is being described as the grand finale of director Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy, and it will be based on the second book in the series, Dune Messiah. The story picks up about ten years after Paul Atreides becomes emperor. By this point, the Fremen, loyal to Paul, have conquered many planets in his name.

The director is staying true to the spirit of Herbert’s novels, but he’s not strictly following every detail. Rebecca Ferguson, who plays Lady Jessica, recently shared that her character has very little presence in the second book, Dune Messiah, and she wasn’t originally planned for the film. However, Villeneuve decided to include her for a single scene.

The first trailer for Dune: Part Three is now available, and it gives us a first look at Robert Pattinson as the character Scytale, a villain with the ability to change his form.

The initial look at Dune: Part Three shows Emperor Paul Atreides and the dark state of the galaxy after the Fremen became his devoted army. The footage also includes a scene of Paul and Chani talking about names for their future children.

Robert Pattinson appears as Scytale, a shapeshifting villain with blond hair who wants to take over from the current Emperor. Paul looks significantly different in this installment, sporting noticeable scars around his blue eyes and a nearly shaved head by the end of the preview.

Paul’s story serves as a warning about the dangers of charismatic leaders and how their power can corrupt them. Director Villeneuve makes this theme clear from the beginning of Dune: Part Three, even showing Paul as villainous in the initial promotional posters rather than a traditional hero.

Herbert always intended for the story to show how even well-meaning actions can have devastating consequences, as Paul’s choices ultimately lead to billions of deaths. It seems Dune Part 3 will be a rather dark and intense movie, despite any expectations to the contrary.
