Invincible Season 4 starts strong, delivering an exciting first half – much like a formidable opponent finally getting their comeuppance. Specifically, the first six episodes are exceptionally well done.
The fourth season of Invincible proves the Prime Video series has a lot more story to tell, especially now that it’s diving into the epic Viltrumite War storyline from the comics. Each season has been bigger than the last, and this one dramatically raises the stakes as Mark’s struggles expand to a galactic scale.
Expect more intense and uncomfortable fights with the Viltrumites, plenty of funny lines from Allen the Alien (voiced by Seth Rogen), and a difficult path for Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons) as he seeks forgiveness and a chance to make things right.
Simply put, the main character in Invincible Season 4 is dealing with a huge amount of challenges. Though things get hectic, it’s a really exciting ride.
What is Invincible Season 4 about?

Season 4 of Invincible finds Mark (Steven Yeun), Eve (Gillian Jacobs), and Oliver (Christian Convery) recovering after their fight with Conquest (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in Season 3. However, the ongoing struggles against supervillains and the growing threat of Viltrumite attacks have left Mark feeling worn down and disillusioned.
Both he and Oliver are tired of constantly being pulled into conflicts. As Oliver puts it, “There’s always one more,” highlighting the endless nature of a hero’s job. The creators, led by Robert Kirkman, clearly enjoy superhero stories, but they also aren’t afraid to explore the downsides and show that being a superhero isn’t always glamorous.
Things are about to get much worse. The galaxy is on the brink of a massive war between the Coalition of Planets and the Viltrumite Empire.
Who does Lee Pace play in Invincible Season 4?

In Season 4 of Invincible, Lee Pace portrays Grand Regent Thragg as the show begins its adaptation of the epic Viltrumite War storyline. Thragg is a powerful and manipulative ruler – imagine a flying, super-strong version of Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars, complete with a striking mustache. He controls the vast Viltrum Empire and dominates half the galaxy.
Over the past three seasons, the show has carefully established how frightening the Viltrumite Empire is, and Season 4 really delivers on that promise. Saying too much would spoil things – and risk the wrath of Prime Video – but it’s fair to say Mark will face some incredibly tough and violent battles during the war.
Though John Pace convincingly portrays Thragg as a powerful threat, introducing his character halfway through the season makes Invincible Season 4 feel somewhat crowded. This is especially true considering the season is already juggling the complex storyline of Omni-Man’s attempts at redemption in 2026.
The show does a good job of portraying Mark’s father as truly remorseful for his violent actions against his son and the mass killings at the end of the first season. This doesn’t forgive what he did, but it highlights the lasting trauma experienced by those close to Nolan because of his choices.
Is Invincible Season 4 good?

Just to be clear, the fourth season of Invincible is excellent. We’ve only seen the first six episodes so far, but unless the last two episodes are surprisingly bad, it seems very likely the season will end strongly.
While generally strong, the season occasionally stumbles in its early episodes. It sometimes gets sidetracked by less important storylines and characters before returning to the main plot about Mark and the Viltrumite invasion. I enjoy seeing Damien Darkblood (played by Clancy Brown) as much as any fan of the show, but bringing him back right after a cliffhanger felt a bit abrupt, though his story is still very entertaining.
Adding Tech Jacket back into the story right before the big Viltrumite War feels rushed and poorly planned. It doesn’t give the character a solid backstory or development, making it hard for viewers to connect with their role in the conflict.
It’s remarkable that this animated superhero series continues to explore such a vast universe while also providing thrilling action. After three seasons, it’s clear: Invincible is truly one of the best superhero stories out there, in any format.
Invincible Season 4 score 4/5
The first three episodes of Invincible Season 4 start streaming on Prime Video on March 18.
