Corey Feldman, who started acting as a child, has been in many movies, but he has negative memories of one in particular: the 1990s film National Lampoon’s Last Resort. He doesn’t believe the movie lived up to the standards of the National Lampoon name.
Corey Feldman became well-known in the 1980s for starring in popular movies like Stand by Me, The Lost Boys, and The Goonies. He often worked alongside the late Corey Haim, and one of their films was National Lampoon’s Last Resort, which was released directly to video in 1994. In a recent interview on the One Bad Movie with Stephen Baldwin podcast, Feldman was asked about his worst movie experience, and he said Last Resort definitely takes that title.
Corey Feldman Had High Hopes for Last Resort
Feldman started working on the project feeling optimistic. While he thought the initial idea was amusing, he believed it needed improvement, so he significantly revised the script. During read-throughs with Haim and actor Charles Fleischer (known for Who Framed Roger Rabbit?), Feldman was encouraged by how funny the material was becoming. Unfortunately, things quickly went downhill when the producers heavily cut down his rewritten script, and he also discovered the film had a much smaller budget than anticipated.
Honestly, it was amazing at first! We all had such a fantastic day and were really buzzing with excitement. But then the producers stepped in and started slashing the budget – they said they couldn’t afford this, couldn’t afford that… it was brutal. They really cut things down to the bare bones. And by the time we actually got to filming, Charles had just completely quit. It was a real shame.
He explained that they were told the movie had a budget of around $2 to $2.5 million, but when he and Corey Haim arrived on set, it looked much cheaper. They wondered if the equipment had been borrowed from a school or had been sitting in someone’s garage for decades.
Feldman described the experience as awful, calling it a complete failure. He felt they’d simply acquired the name “National Lampoon” without capturing the quality of classic films like Vacation or Animal House. He and Corey were extremely frustrated with how poorly it turned out.
National Lampoon’s Last Resort Was Heavily Panned
Directed by Rafael Zielinski, National Lampoon’s Last Resort has a 30% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film stars Corey Feldman and Corey Haim as Sam and Dave, two friends who unexpectedly inherit a run-down Caribbean resort after Sam’s uncle passes away. They decide to turn it into a lively party spot, which quickly attracts a chaotic group of tourists and leads to plenty of wild and outrageous situations. Throughout all the fun, Sam and Dave struggle to keep the resort from falling apart.
Over the years, Feldman continued acting, appearing in films like Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys, Splatter, and 13 Fanboy. He’s also made appearances on several TV shows, mainly reality programs such as The Masked Singer and Dancing with the Stars. Currently, though, Feldman’s main focus is his music, and he frequently performs concerts.
