The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Finale Recap: Now What?

It’s good that Taylor even made it to the Bachelor mansion, and thankfully, they took her phone away. While Taylor seems to be moving on from Dakota, we’re left with a lot of unresolved drama with the other women. Mikayla’s marriage is still uncertain, Jen and Whitney have a broken relationship, and Jessi needs to sort out her prenuptial agreement before she can get divorced. Plus, Demi didn’t even have a proper farewell, so she could appear at the reunion. What bothers me most is that we didn’t get to see more of Layla’s story after she bravely shared her struggles with an eating disorder – it wasn’t even discussed until very recently.

I was really struck by Layla’s story. She didn’t get the contract with Ford Models, and even though they were careful not to comment on her looks, that’s the first place her mind went – worrying about her weight. It was heartbreaking to hear her then share, for the first time, that she’s been battling an eating disorder. It just shows how deeply these things can affect someone, even when others try to be sensitive.

Layla shared that she struggled with anorexia during high school, and things shifted when she became pregnant. After her separation from her sons’ father, she admitted to falling back into those old patterns. She feels she’s been privately fighting this for four years. While at the spa with Jessi and Miranda, Layla confessed she constantly worries about her weight and never feeling thin enough. Now, she’s completely exhausted, even sleeping is painful, and she realizes she needs to address this. Miranda offered her support with a hug, and Jessi asked if she was still taking GLP-1 medication.

Layla often describes her struggles with an eating disorder as a cautionary tale, explaining that people don’t understand how consuming it can be. She admits to her friends that she’s unable to stop. She also openly shares how comments online – even those telling her to eat or criticizing her weight – strangely fueled the disorder, giving her a sense of validation. Her friends, Jessi and Miranda, offer support and let her know she isn’t facing this alone. In a powerful show of support, Jessi quickly finds a leading eating disorder treatment center and goes with Layla to her first appointment – a testament to Jessi’s caring nature.

The drama between Jen and Whitney has gone far enough, especially with Jen sending her husband to handle things instead of addressing Whitney directly. After Jen was eliminated from Dancing With the Stars, she publicly said she wouldn’t support Whitney, who then tried to meet and talk things over. Instead of Jen, her husband, Zac, showed up, and the conversation was a complete waste of time. Zac immediately shut down everything Whitney said, and she eventually left, understandably frustrated. Whitney’s boyfriend, Conner, was furious, saying he wanted to confront Zac. He passionately defended Whitney, saying he hates when men try to belittle women, and ultimately called Zac a “loser.”

I don’t personally know Dakota, so I can’t explain his actions. However, in this episode, it’s clear he’s doing everything he can to prevent Taylor from becoming the Bachelorette. The moment his car arrives at Taylor’s house the night before her scheduled departure, you know something bad is going to happen. The episode even uses a dramatic title card, “The Next Morning,” and Dakota cheerfully walks out the front door. Conveniently, when Liann and Aspen come to take Taylor to the airport, she suddenly claims to be sick and can’t get out of bed.

Okay, buckle up, because the drama just exploded. Dakota immediately spilled the beans to Jordan about him and Taylor hooking up, which explains why Taylor wasn’t at the airport when her friends – Mayci, Mikayla, Layla, and Jessi – showed up with their cute goodbye signs. Instead, they found Liann and Aspen, and Jessi quickly filled Liann in on everything. Honestly, the whole group was completely disgusted. While they can’t prove Dakota is responsible for Taylor missing her flight, everyone knows he is. It gets even wilder – the moms (aka “MomTok”) actually tried to break into Taylor’s house to get her up and out the door! Taylor was understandably upset, yelling, “Why won’t anyone leave me alone!” and Jessi, with perfect bluntness, just replied, “Because you said yes to The Bachelorette!” It’s a mess, folks, a total mess.

Taylor managed to get a later flight, which was good news. However, Dakota wasn’t finished talking to her. As Taylor was being driven to her temporary home in Los Angeles, right before starting filming for The Bachelorette, Dakota video-called her. He told the cameras it was his last chance to express his feelings. He apologized to Taylor, and she pressed him for specifics, which didn’t seem like a good sign. Dakota made one final attempt to salvage things, saying their relationship didn’t have to be so difficult. Then, he delivered a line that clearly felt rehearsed: “Just save a rose for me.” It was clear his time was up!

Just when things seemed calm, Jessi’s Halloween party started, and Dakota showed up dressed as a red flag – he clearly thinks it’s a joke. He spent time with Shinia, both flirting with her and telling her to stay away, and now he’s up to something else. If I wanted to start a rumor without seeming like the source, I’d call Jordan and Jessi immediately. At the party, Dakota pulls Jordan and Jessi aside to share some news: he claims Taylor told him she was ovulating during their last intimate encounter and hasn’t had her period since. Jessi is shocked – could one of the Bachelorette contestants be pregnant? It’s possible, but Dakota might be trying to mislead everyone.

Honestly, most shows would wrap things up neatly at the end of a season, but The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives? They just love leaving you hanging! If you’re confused or have questions, though, don’t bother asking me – head straight to the MomTok comment sections, that’s where the real discussions happen.
