This episode was a mixed bag. One half was truly touching and even brought tears to my eyes, while the other focused on Dakota. Let’s begin with the heartwarming part: Taylor and Liann traveled to Pueblo, Colorado, so Taylor could learn more about her biological father, Brian.
As Steve, Brian’s old friend, shares details about Brian’s life and high school years, I initially question why Liann hadn’t already told Taylor these things. However, the more we discover about Brian and his relationship with Liann, the clearer her actions and motivations become. Steve describes Brian as a smart but volatile person who struggled with jealousy. After serving in the Marines, Brian was severely injured in a car accident, and both Steve and Liann believe he was never the same afterward. Liann explains that Brian had a powerful hold on her, similar to how Taylor feels about Dakota. He later developed a drug problem and became abusive towards Liann, a situation Steve reluctantly confirms he witnessed. Taylor is stunned by the extent of her mother’s experiences, while Liann appears increasingly withdrawn.
Later, Taylor and Liann went to the restaurant where Taylor had briefly met Brian when she was a little girl. It wasn’t a planned meeting; Brian was working there, and Liann simply asked if he’d like to meet his daughter. Liann is clearly overwhelmed and keeps saying she doesn’t like to discuss it. She decides she needs some fresh air and starts walking. Taylor eventually finds her while she’s walking towards their old house—a place filled with both happy and painful memories. The current homeowner kindly allowed them to look around the yard, giving them a space to talk.
Liann has been sharing more details about her past, explaining how she met Jeremy and how he became Taylor’s father after they married. She feels Jeremy rescued both of them. She used to have nightmares about her ex, Brian, wanting to take Taylor and her, but he never did. Now, standing together in their old yard, Taylor no longer feels angry at Liann, and Liann feels the same way. Liann admits to Taylor that, despite wanting a family with Brian, it just wasn’t possible. She explains she left him for Taylor’s sake. Taylor apologizes for not understanding how difficult this trip might be for Liann, but Liann insists Taylor deserved an explanation. Taylor realizes revisiting the past has been helpful, and she’s grateful to have Liann and Jeremy as loving parents. She tells Liann she’s a wonderful mom. Liann says she’s happy Taylor feels secure with her and Jeremy, but she ultimately wants Taylor to feel good about herself. They both acknowledge that their stories are intertwined, saying they are a part of each other. It’s a very emotional moment!
I’m still processing everything with Dakota, so let’s talk about Layla. It’s been so inspiring to watch other ‘MomTok’ creators go after what they want, and it’s really motivated Layla to pursue her modeling dreams. She’s heading to New York City to meet with Ford Models! The catch? If they sign her, she’d need to live and work in NYC for at least three months.
On a more personal note, Layla and Mason finally had a really important talk about her kids. He feels like she lets them get away with too much, while she thinks he needs to remember he’s an uncle, not a dad. And honestly, they’re just little – three and four years old! She shared her own tough childhood, growing up with fighting parents, and explained how careful she is about the environment she creates for her kids. It finally clicked for Mason, and he agreed to give them space. It was a really emotional moment – happy tears and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc helped! It was such a refreshing scene to watch.
Alright, let’s talk about Dakota. He’s really making it clear why so many people dislike him. Jordan knows he’s been seeing someone connected to their group, and Jessi knows it too. Jordan won’t say who it is, but it’s pretty obvious it’s Shinia, a friend of Miranda’s. We met Shinia at pickleball, and she was telling Taylor about her recent breakup – her ex had gotten back with his wife. Now she’s back at this festival right after her relationship with Dakota became public. Jessi and many others spent the previous night angrily confronting Dakota about dating a friend of Taylor’s. And now, Miranda is stuck dealing with the fallout and is understandably upset with Shinia.
Miranda thinks Dakota deliberately chose Shinia, hoping she’d end up reconnecting with Taylor. She argues that if he truly wanted to keep things quiet, he wouldn’t have confided in Jordan. Miranda tries to explain this to Shinia in the bathroom, telling her Dakota is showering her with excessive attention – a tactic Miranda considers manipulative. Shinia, however, dismisses it, saying it’s only unpleasant if you’re not attracted to the person. Frustrated, Miranda insists love-bombing is always a bad sign and encourages Shinia to learn from Taylor’s experience – the last woman who tried to change Dakota. Miranda is really pouring her heart out, but Shinia doesn’t seem to be listening. Later, Dakota admits he’s still hung up on Taylor, but he and Shinia decide to continue their relationship anyway. Miranda’s efforts are wasted; Shinia seems determined to stay with him.
MomTok is facing a difficult situation. They’re worried about how Taylor will react to some news about Dakota’s behavior. Taylor was very upset when Dakota connected with someone else in London, and they fear she’ll be even more devastated if she finds out he’s now seeing a friend. Jessi calls a meeting at her house – the group’s usual spot for serious talks – to discuss what to do. They debate the pros and cons of telling Taylor versus keeping it a secret. Telling her could cause a meltdown that ruins her chances on The Bachelorette, which would reflect poorly on everyone involved, and of course, it would hurt her deeply. But if they don’t tell her, she’ll likely find out from someone else, making her feel even more betrayed. Layla is uncomfortable with the idea of lying to Taylor. Mikayla points out that their constant attempts to protect Taylor often backfire. However, before they can decide, Jessi reveals another secret: Dakota isn’t just seeing Shinia, he also recently hooked up with Jenna – the same Jenna he previously lied to Taylor about. Taylor still hasn’t forgiven him for that lie, and it’s a recurring point of contention in their arguments. Mikayla says, “He just keeps getting worse,” and Mayci adds, “This is beyond awful.”
