Jared Padalecki is returning to the big screen after 16 years with a new role in the Netflix film, Guarding Stars.
Jared Padalecki announced on Instagram that filming for “Guarding Stars” is complete. He shared a selfie taken in the snow and expressed his gratitude to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where the movie was filmed, jokingly thanking the city for hosting him, a “annoying Texan,” for a short time. Padalecki praised the people of Calgary as “incredible hosts” and hopes the cast and crew did the city proud.
The actor jokingly asked for less snow in the future. He acknowledged the location was beautiful, but also admitted he was extremely cold.
Hey Calgary.
Thank you for letting this annoying Texan come and stay in your town for a hot second.
Yall are incredible hosts, and I had an incredible time….
Hope that we all did you proud.
Hope that we can all make it back soon.

(PS. If I may be so bold, maybe a little less snow next time?…
It sure was beautiful, but I sure was freezing my b***s off…)
The new romantic comedy Guarding Stars is based on Katherine Center’s popular 2022 novel, The Bodyguard. The film stars Leighton Meester (known from Gossip Girl) as a bodyguard assigned to protect a celebrity played by Jared Padalecki. The cast also includes Andie MacDowell, Walker Hayes, Noah LaLonde, Toby Sandeman, Rachael Ancheril, Phil Brooks, and Ava Max.
Following the successful adaptations of The Lost Husband (2020) and Happiness For Beginners (2021), Guarding Stars is the newest novel by this author to become a movie or TV show. She has also written several other popular books, including The Bright Side of Disaster, Everyone is Beautiful, Get Lucky, How to Walk Away, Things You Save in a Fire, What You Wish For, Hello Stranger, and The Love Haters.
Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, who directed episodes of Ginny & Georgia, helmed Guarding Stars. The screenplay was written by Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith. Jared Padalecki, along with his wife Genevieve Padalecki, Robin Fisichella, Gina Matthews, and Grant Scharbo, all served as producers on the project.
Jared Padalecki has appeared in several films, such as New York Minute, Flight of the Phoenix, House of Wax, and the 2009 remake of Friday the 13th. While that slasher film was his most recent on-screen role, he also did voice work, dubbing an English version of a character in the 2015 French animated film Phantom Boy.
While it’s been 16 years since Jared Padalecki last appeared in a movie, he’s built a thriving career on television. He’s best known for his roles as Dean Forester on Gilmore Girls and Sam Winchester on the long-running fantasy show Supernatural, where he starred alongside Jensen Ackles.
He also won a People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Bromance alongside Misha Collins, and a Teen Choice Award for Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor.
I was really sad when Supernatural ended in 2020, but I was thrilled to see Jared Padalecki continue with The CW in the Walker reboot! It was great seeing him as Walker for four seasons. Now, I’m so excited for his next role – he’s going to be in the final season of The Boys on Prime Video, and it starts airing on April 8th. I can’t wait to see what he does with it!
A release date for Guarding Stars hasn’t been announced yet.
