The controversy surrounding the book It Ends With Us isn’t the end of the story. The same people accused of unfairly attacking Blake Lively are now facing allegations of using similar tactics against film producer Amanda Ghost, reportedly at the request of Rebel Wilson. Ghost and Wilson collaborated on the 2026 movie The Deb, which has been caught in legal battles for the past two years. Recently leaked recordings reveal Wilson’s team – including digital strategist Jed Wallace, publicist Melissa Nathan, and her former lawyer Bryan Freedman – discussing strategies to damage Ghost’s reputation.
Want to understand the recent controversy surrounding this small film? Here’s a breakdown of everything that’s been happening.
What is The Deb?
The Deb, a new musical film directed by Rebel Wilson, is coming to Australian cinemas this April. It’s based on a popular Australian stage production of the same name. The film has faced a lot of controversy since it first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival two years ago, and it still hasn’t been released in the United States.
When did this offscreen drama start?
In July 2024, Rebel Wilson publicly claimed that producers of her film, The Deb – including Amanda Ghost, Gregory Cameron, and Vince Holden – were preventing it from premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Wilson stated she discovered concerning behavior from these partners back in October of the previous year, alleging inappropriate conduct toward the film’s lead actress and misuse of the movie’s funds, which were crucial for the small-budget production. Despite these issues, The Deb was ultimately chosen as TIFF’s closing-night film and did premiere at the festival.
Following a video released by Wilson, the film’s producers dismissed his claims as false and damaging. They then filed a defamation lawsuit against him, alleging he abandoned the project repeatedly and tried to unfairly claim a writing credit that would have violated guidelines set by the Australian Writers Guild, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Wilson was originally slated to receive a lesser “additional writing by” credit. He responded with a countersuit, accusing the producers of sexually harassing the film’s lead actress, Charlotte MacInnes. According to THR, Wilson claims the producers forced MacInnes to live with them in their apartment and engaged in inappropriate behavior, including showering and bathing with her.
Things really took a turn by May 2025. After Charlotte MacInnes – who, in court, denied any harassment by Ghost – showed up at Cannes, looking pretty relaxed on a yacht, I saw things explode online. Lena Wilson, who’s heavily involved with The Deb, went straight to the film’s Instagram and started publicly criticizing Charlotte. She posted about Charlotte wearing what Lena called a ‘culturally inappropriate’ outfit while on Len Blavatnik’s yacht, and sarcastically mentioned a song from The Deb that might never see the light of day because of Charlotte’s alleged actions and those blocking the film’s release. She also continued to accuse Ghost of sexual harassment and expressed frustration that Charlotte seemingly landed a record deal while 300 people who worked on The Deb were left wanting to see their film released. It was a really messy public feud, honestly.
According to a statement to Variety Australia, the legal team for the producers claims the entire conflict stems from Rebel Wilson’s alleged habit of taking undeserved credit, which they say harms the careers of young, talented actresses while she presents herself as a supporter. In August, actress MacInnes also filed a defamation lawsuit against Wilson, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. MacInnes’s lawyer stated that Wilson damaged her professional reputation before she could benefit from the film’s success, as it was her first leading role.
AI Films, the company run by Ghost and Holden, also filed a lawsuit against Wilson in Australia, according to The Guardian. They alleged that Wilson deliberately interfered with the sale of the film The Deb to lower the value of her own company, Camp Sugar, hoping AI Films would then sell its share. Wilson responded on Instagram, stating, “As the producer, director, and co-star who developed The Deb from a short idea into a full film over three years, I’m committed to getting it released and have been working hard to make that happen.”
That’s a lot. What’s going on with this new leaked audio?
According to an alleged recording, Jed Wallace, who was attempting to manage a situation, discussed a plan with publicist Melissa Nathan to damage producer Amanda Ghost’s reputation. Wallace proposed portraying Ghost as someone involved in sex trafficking, comparing her to Heidi Fleiss. He claimed Ghost’s lack of musical talent was due to her allegedly procuring sex workers for Warner Music owner Len Blavatnik, calling her a “madame” and suggesting this was the reason for her power. Wallace emphasized the need for serious, substantiated accusations, stating that simply calling her names wouldn’t be enough.
Vasquez, the lawyer for Ghost, stated that Rebel Wilson has consistently denied creating the websites designed to damage his reputation, both in interviews and under oath. However, they believed she was not only involved, but the main person responsible for the sites. They say the evidence they presented to the California court proves this.
A now-removed website accused Amanda Ghost of exploiting young women. It claimed that after struggling as a musician, she became a producer and allegedly facilitated relationships between wealthy individuals and young women. These accusations were reportedly shared with the Agency Group, with someone referring to Ghost as the “Indian Ghislaine Maxwell.”
And what does this have to do with It Ends With Us?
A key part of the controversy surrounding the It Ends With Us film adaptation involves accusations that Justin Baldoni attempted to damage Blake Lively’s reputation. A December 2024 report in The New York Times revealed details of this alleged campaign. The Times article also highlighted connections between people working on Wilson’s team and Baldoni, with one source quoted as saying they could “bury anyone.” Jed Nathan and Bryan Freedman were also mentioned in the report. The team currently opposing Wilson is pointing out similarities between the tactics used in the It Ends With Us situation and what might have been done to them by Wilson previously. Baldoni did sue The New York Times over their reporting, but the lawsuit was dismissed in June 2025. It seems the drama surrounding It Ends With Us just keeps continuing.
Has Wilson responded to the latest?
Neither Wilson nor her team have yet commented on the surfaced audio.
