Jenna Ortega has become a prominent actress in recent years, landing significant roles in several popular franchises. Last year, she reprised her role as Wednesday Addams in the Netflix hit Wednesday, with a third season already in the works. She also appeared in the A24 film Death of a Unicorn alongside Paul Rudd, and at just 23 years old, she continues to be involved in large-scale film and television projects.
In addition to her work on Wednesday Season 3 and the upcoming film Klara and the Sun (directed by Taika Waititi), Jenna Ortega will star in a remake of a popular movie from thirty years ago. This adds another exciting project to her growing list of roles.
Jenna Ortega will lead the cast in a new version of the 1992 thriller Single White Female, now titled Single Female, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Taylor Russell will co-star, and Sarah DeLappe is writing the screenplay. Both Ortega and Russell will also serve as executive producers, alongside Stacey Sher and Marisa Paiva, under Sony Pictures’ 3000 Pictures label.
The movie Single White Female was inspired by John Lutz’s novel, SFW Seeks Same. It stars Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh as two women who become roommates after Fonda’s character breaks up with her fiancé. Their relationship takes a dark turn when Leigh’s character becomes possessive and dangerously jealous of Fonda’s fiancé, Sam, and tries to win him over.

Despite being made with a modest $16 million budget in 1992, the thriller Single White Female earned $84 million at the box office and debuted in second place, just behind Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven. With horror films currently enjoying a revival, especially established franchises and remakes, a new release of this movie could be very successful with both audiences and critics.
Jenna Ortega and Nicholas Russell are both experienced horror actors, making them a perfect pair to star in this new film. Ortega is well-known for her roles in the Scream series and Insidious 2, while Russell has appeared in two Escape Room movies and the 2022 film Bones and All. Although their specific characters haven’t been announced, they’re sure to bring a lot of skill to this remake of a highly-regarded 1990s horror classic.
