A website is bringing back the nostalgic and quirky world of early internet cartoons from Newgrounds. Every time you visit, it shows you a different, randomly selected Flash animation.
Newgrounds Roulette plays random animations from the vast collection on Newgrounds, a popular website where people used to share and watch Flash cartoons and games.
Rather than scrolling through animations, users can just click a keyboard image to see a new, random one.
Viewers can also click a button in the bottom-left corner to visit the animation’s original Newgrounds page and see where it was first published.
Website archives old Newgrounds flash animations
Newgrounds was the go-to place for Flash animations years ago. According to its creator, @immike_wing, hundreds of new animations were uploaded there every month. This website gathers those animations and shows you a different random one each time you visit.
Newgrounds started in 1995 and rapidly grew into a hugely popular online platform for independent artists and developers.
Newgrounds once received around 3,000 Flash animations annually, but most of them have been lost to time. That’s why I created a website that randomly displays these old animations.

The website was once incredibly popular, featuring thousands of games and animations created by its users with Adobe Flash. It was also where many of the internet’s earliest viral videos first gained attention.
Even though Newgrounds has saved a lot of its old content by using emulators and different media players, many of the original animations are now difficult to find unless you’re specifically looking for them.
Newgrounds Roulette aims to bring back the feeling of randomly exploring the original Newgrounds, where you could stumble upon everything from silly cartoons to impressive animations.
It’s happened again – a unique gaming website is gaining popularity online. Recently, a fan created a game based on Wikipedia where random articles become collectible Pokemon cards. And another site now allows you to play the classic Super Monkey Ball games directly in your web browser.
