Nihon Falcom has announced that Kyoto Xanadu will launch on July 16 in Japan and Asia.
Falcom has announced they’re working with a partner to bring Kyoto Xanady to Western audiences, and that partner will reveal the release date once it’s confirmed. In Japan and Asia, the game will only be available digitally on Switch 2, but Switch owners will have the option to upgrade. Following the announcement, Falcom also launched the game’s official website and provided details about the main character.
Kyoto Xanadu launches on July 16 in Japan and Asia for PS5, Switch 2, Switch, and PC (Steam).

About This Game
An Adventure Through Kyoto and Xanadu: the Otherworld
The story takes place in present-day Japan, with Kyoto now serving as the nation’s capital. It follows young men and women who suddenly gain the ability to travel to a mysterious realm called Xanadu.
Rei Kamiya, a boy with the ability to battle monsters from the mysterious realm of Xanadu, enrolls at Hirasaka Academy – a school dedicated to conquering that very realm. With the help of his unusual friends, Rei prepares to face the challenges of Xanadu.

■ Innovative 2D x 3D Battle system
Kyoto Xanadu has a unique battle system with two different ways to fight. “2D Battle” lets you play like classic side-scrolling games while you explore the large, maze-like area under the school.
Certain gates found throughout the maze will transport players to a 3D battle arena. Here, they can fight enemies using a variety of skills and special moves within a dedicated space inside each gate.
■ Enhance abilities through Soul-Device and Guardian customization
Improve your Soul-Device by spending points you get from exploring Xanadu and completing daily tasks! This will make your device more powerful and unlock new abilities and attacks.
Boost your character’s strength significantly by equipping Guardian Cards you earn in 3D Battle! These cards add powerful elemental effects like fire and ice to your attacks, and also unlock unique ranged attacks that aren’t available with regular Soul-Devices.
■ Enjoy your daily life as a High School Student!
Before each class, place action cards down. Going to class improves your skills in specific subjects, depending on the card you used, and also strengthens your relationships with other characters. As you advance in the story, you’ll unlock more action cards to collect, making things even more enjoyable.
Let’s have fun exploring Kyoto City after school! You can visit sights, shop around, and have dinner with your classmates – it’s your choice how you want to spend the time!
■ Chat, Side Quests, and other variousfun elements
The daily life portion of the game, set at Hirasaka Academy, includes character conversations and quests that take place all over Kyoto.
