As a huge fan, I’m seeing theories everywhere about what Marvel will do after the Multiverse Saga wraps up! I’m really hoping the next big phase, the Mutant Saga, does things differently from the X-Men movies we got from Fox. It’s a fresh start, and they could really shake things up by introducing some of the lesser-known, but amazing, X-Men characters. There are so many cool mutants who haven’t gotten their due yet, and I’d love to see them finally get a chance to shine!
Characters like Trinity, Lacuna, and Fantomex are powerful and have interesting stories, but haven’t been featured prominently in Marvel comics. Marvel Studios has the opportunity to introduce these lesser-known X-Men – who, while not as famous as heroes like Wolverine or Storm – have the potential to become popular characters in future movies and stories about mutants.
Not every X-Man has flashy, powerful abilities. Xabi, sometimes called Nothing Man or ForgetMeNot, is a lesser-known hero with a rather ironic power: he’s difficult to remember. His mutation makes him seem invisible to people’s memories – they only recall him while they’re actually looking at him. Though a little lonely, this ability makes him excellent at stealth and covert operations.
ForgetMeNot offers a more subdued take on the superhero life, something we don’t often see in Marvel movies. It’s understandable – audiences expect big action sequences, and subtler powers sometimes don’t deliver. Still, Xabi’s abilities would be perfect for a thrilling spy story, whether as a TV show or a film, if Marvel decided to reimagine the character.
Woodstock Shumaker is Lacuna, a mutant with the incredible ability to stop time. Created by Peter Milligan and Mike Allred, Lacuna’s powers let her create small distortions in time, effectively letting her move at super speed while everything else appears frozen.
Lacuna hasn’t been a major character in Peter Milligan’s X-Statix comics, but her unique power – the ability to stop time – is too interesting to overlook if the X-Men join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She could become a popular and memorable character, especially since she’s outgoing and has a quirky personality.
Shilpa Khatri, also known as Trinity, is a teenager from India with the ability to control technology. Inspired by Robin Hood, she used her powers to transfer funds from the twenty-five wealthiest CEOs in India into the bank accounts of working women across the country. This act of digital redistribution led to her arrest by the Indian Mutant Defense Force, but the X-Men swiftly stepped in to help.
It would be exciting to see Trinity’s ability to control technology in a Marvel movie. With so much advanced tech already featured in the MCU, a character who can directly change how it works would bring something fresh to the universe. Though she’s not well-known from the comics, Trinity has the potential to become a major character in future Marvel films.
Fantomex is a fascinating artificial mutant created by the Weapon Plus Project. Also known as Charlie Cluster-7, he’s unique thanks to his three brains and special “nano-activated blood.” He also has a highly advanced, detachable nervous system that functions as a weapon – it’s called E.V.A., and it can operate independently.
Fantomex is a compelling character with a striking look, interesting personality, and impressive abilities. His story is deeply sad, highlighting the harsh treatment often faced by mutants – a theme the larger mutant storyline could emphasize. This makes him an excellent candidate for an X-Force team or a new approach to the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Sunfire, also known as Shiro Yoshida, is a mutant who can generate fire. He absorbs energy from the sun and transforms it into incredibly hot flames. This “solar fire” is his primary attack, but he also possesses infrared vision and can shape his energy into things like protective shields. Sunfire’s powers can create fire reaching temperatures of 1,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sunfire isn’t without flaws. His pride often makes it difficult to collaborate, which is why he’s usually distanced himself from the X-Men. But when he does work with the team, he’s incredibly effective. Introducing this kind of complex relationship to the MCU’s X-Men would be interesting – it’s more realistic than portraying them as always getting along perfectly. Plus, his powers could create some amazing visual effects, making him a strong candidate for the franchise.
Joshua Foley, known as Elixir, has a unique ability: he can change the biological makeup of living things. This allows him to heal any injury or disease, even bringing people back from the brink of death, and he can even alter the powers of mutants. While primarily the team’s healer, Elixir can also use his abilities to make others sick.
While many X-Men are famous for their fighting abilities, Elixir demonstrates that mutants can also be forces for good. His powerful healing skills could benefit both his team and the wider public, improving how mutants are seen by the world. This makes him a strong candidate to become a key member of the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I’m a huge fan of Marrow, also known as Sarah! Her mutant power is seriously cool. Basically, her metabolism is supercharged, which lets her do two amazing things. She can control her bone growth – she can change the shape, make them super strong, and even grow them really fast, turning her bones into weapons! And the craziest part? She has this incredible healing factor, so even if she removed bones, it wouldn’t even hurt her. It’s wild!
While Marrow’s appearance is intimidating, it’s what sets her apart, even when considering her history. Before joining the X-Men, she lived with the Morlocks, a community of mutants who hid underground due to societal rejection. Her transformation from a hidden outcast to an X-Man is a powerful story the Marvel Cinematic Universe could explore.
While the X-Men movies featured Warpath, they completely overlooked his older brother, Thunderbird. This exceptionally fit mutant possesses immense strength – enough to tear a jet apart – along with amazing endurance, speed, and resilience. Combined with his military background, these abilities make him a formidable fighter.
Thunderbird is a remarkably powerful member of the X-Men with a compelling history rooted in his Apache ancestry. His connection to the character Warpath further enriches his story. With the current Krakoa storyline, now is an ideal time for Marvel Studios to introduce him to a wider audience.
Rachel Argosy, a former music teacher from Two Forks, Maine, developed her mutant ability at age 20. She can use music to control people’s feelings or even make things float. Unlike most mutants who discover their powers as children, Rachel was already an adult when hers emerged, giving her a different connection to her abilities – something the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be interesting to explore.
Rhapsody is a comic book character who would really shine in a movie or TV show. Her powers could create amazing musical scenes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, adding a fresh and exciting element to any project – similar to the interdimensional travel and visuals we saw in The Marvels when Carol, Kamala, and Monica went to Aladna.
Danielle Moonstar, known as Mirage, is a key member and emotional center of the New Mutants. She’s a powerful telepath who creates illusions based on what her enemies fear or want most, essentially turning their own minds against them. Beyond illusions, Mirage can also shape her mental powers into solid energy, firing arrows from her bow, the Dawn Piercer, to temporarily disable her opponents.
Mirage is a powerful psychic character in Marvel, and her use of illusions is visually stunning. Her Cheyenne background gives her a rich and compelling story, making her a character with a lot of promise. Importantly, Mirage isn’t a particularly unknown X-Man, meaning there’s plenty of source material from the comics to create an accurate and engaging adaptation.
