The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Recap: Not Again

Harry Jowsey wasn’t enough to keep Taylor from ending up back in bed with Dakota – not even for one night. Despite his presence, Taylor continued to argue with Dakota about the same issues as everyone relaxed by the firepit. She was so caught up in the fight that she didn’t even notice Harry looking horrified before he announced he was leaving. Predictably, the next morning, Layla found Dakota naked in bed with her – again.

Everyone reacted with frustration and disappointment as Taylor and Dakota once again faced criticism for their actions – advice they’d apparently ignored many times before. Perhaps this time the message would finally sink in. Still groggy, the couple tried to explain themselves to Mayci and Layla, who stood with arms crossed, clearly unimpressed. Things went from bad to worse when Miranda pointed out that a pregnancy would be a disaster for the show. Whitney expressed her dismay with a simple, pointed “Taylor!” Then, Dr. Jessi offered a deeper analysis, suggesting Taylor’s behavior stemmed from feeling unlovable due to abandonment by her father, a feeling Dakota had also reinforced. It felt like the universe was sending a message, as the group coincidentally ran into the host of The Bachelorette, Jesse Palmer, while at brunch.

Honestly, the dads aren’t thrilled with Dakota’s behavior either, though they unfairly focus a lot of the blame on Taylor. The guys all seem to think Dakota has him completely controlled, but Conner, Whitney’s husband, gave Dakota some really solid advice – that he’s the only one who can decide to break free, which I thought was spot-on. I still think it was a mistake to let all the guys hang out together, though. Even without Jordan there, DadTok seems to be rubbing off on some of them in a bad way. It’s funny, Jordan actually missed all the drama he started because he and Jessi had to fly to New York for Jessi to get some award from Page Six – something about being a ‘Boss Babe’! Jacob, Mayci’s husband, used to be such a supportive partner, but now he’s actually mansplaining self-promotion to Mayci, even though she’s the expert and literally earns their income with her skills! He gets upset when she tells him she doesn’t need his help. If she did need advice, she should ask Whitney – she’s been rocking matching lycra outfits while competing on Dancing With the Stars, so she clearly knows a thing or two about presentation!

Mayci received a worrying call from her publicist about poor ticket sales for her book event in Salt Lake City. The publishers believe she hasn’t been prioritizing the book, and the conversation is happening while her baby is crying. Mayci understands she needs to promote it more, but she’s struggling to find the time. Her husband, Jacob, offers lots of ideas, but she doesn’t have the energy to implement them, and he gets upset when she asks him to actually do things. He complains that she doesn’t value his input. In a private interview, Jacob explained that, according to his Mormon beliefs, men receive priesthood authority at age twelve, while women don’t, and he feels household decisions should be led by those with that authority. However, he insists he doesn’t intend to be difficult.

Things got even more complicated when Jessi agreed to host a book event in Salt Lake City, but then canceled because she received an offer from Alex Cooper and her Call Her Daddy podcast for her own show, Unwell. Mayci is already exhausted from her book tour, recovering after giving birth, dealing with pressure from her publicist, and struggling to keep her daughter, Dakota, away from Taylor’s bed – and now she needs to confront Jessi about this. Jacob thinks Mayci simply ignores his advice, but most of the MomTok community believes Jessi is clearly in the wrong. A key rule on MomTok is that supporting each other’s events is non-negotiable. Layla and Miranda both turned down the Unwell event to be there for Mayci, making Jessi’s decision to back out even more problematic after initially agreeing to host.

Whether it’s good or bad, Mayci won’t be able to avoid the drama for long. Jordan and Jessi are back at the Airbnb, and Jordan has brought out his usual method for causing trouble – rehashing old storylines. Layla points out that Jordan is trying too hard to be like those drama-focused moms on TikTok. Whitney is so disturbed by this that she immediately leaves with her husband, and Mason and Dakota also decide to step away, opting to work out nearby. It’s unclear why everyone else doesn’t just do the same, but they seem determined to stay involved.

Surprisingly, things don’t escalate too badly. Zac manages to lighten the mood when he’s asked a tough question – “Who needs MomTok the most?” – by jokingly suggesting “DadTok.” I think I’m actually starting to like Zac! Mayci can’t avoid a direct question about Jessi choosing a different event over hers. She honestly admits she was hurt, which seems to surprise Jessi. However, it doesn’t lead to a fight. The women address the issue respectfully and find a solution. Jessi apologizes and promises to prioritize hosting Mayci’s event as they originally agreed.

Don’t worry, though – the episode still has a dramatic conclusion. Taylor and Dakota have their regular breakup meeting, which starts off friendly. But predictably, Taylor gets upset, Dakota shuts down, and the conversation quickly escalates into yelling and crying.
