Rosamund Pike recently described the 2005 movie Doom as a complete failure, even calling it one of the worst films she’s ever seen.
Movies based on video games are incredibly profitable these days. Recent films like those based on Sonic, Mario, and Minecraft have earned huge amounts of money worldwide.
For a long time, movies based on video games had a bad reputation. Early attempts, like the first adaptations of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, and the live-action Super Mario movie, were often considered failures.
The 2005 movie Doom didn’t quite live up to expectations, even with stars like Dwayne Johnson, Karl Urban, and Rosamund Pike. In fact, Rosamund Pike recently admitted she thought the film was terrible.
Rosamund Pike calls Doom “one of the worst films ever made”

Rosamund Pike first appeared in a James Bond film, Die Another Day. After working on a historical drama, she surprisingly returned to action movies.
While filming Pride and Prejudice, I was happily working in costume in the fields when I received a surprising phone call – an offer to join an action movie series,” says Pike in an interview with Elizabeth Day.
A movie adaptation of the video game Doom is being made. It got me thinking – if I can confidently balance on a hay bale in a historical dress, then I’m definitely capable of imagining myself fighting zombies on Mars!
I unexpectedly landed a role in a movie with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, and it quickly became clear I wasn’t prepared to be an action hero.

Pike observed that the film set was full of traditionally masculine personalities and heavy equipment. He also noted the reverence shown towards prop guns, saying they were treated like sacred objects by fans of the Doom video game. He felt overwhelmed and inexperienced in that environment, stating he was completely out of his element.
The movie Doom wasn’t financially successful, earning less money worldwide than it cost to make. Critics also disliked it, giving it a low 18% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Actress Charlize Theron has been very critical of her own performance in the film, calling it a disaster that could have harmed her career and describing it as potentially one of the worst movies ever made.
Pike is actually grateful to still be employed, saying it feels like she’s fortunate to have made it through that difficult situation.
