I helped someone become Iron Man, and when it was time to negotiate the sequel, they took the money that was promised to me and essentially fired me. We originally had an agreement for three movies. The deal was structured so that a certain amount was paid for each film in advance. When it came time for the second movie, they offered me only one-eighth of what I was originally contracted to receive, claiming the film would succeed regardless of my involvement. I reached out to the friend I’d helped get the first job, but he didn’t return my call for three months.

In a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, Howard explained he repeatedly tried contacting Downey but never received a response. He felt Downey ultimately benefited from a deal Howard had hoped to secure, estimating this amounted to a $100 million loss for him personally. Despite this, Howard stated he wouldn’t change his actions, saying it was simply in his nature to prioritize helping someone else.

New Info May Reveal the Real Reason Marvel Recast War Machine

Terrence Howard recently shared new details about why he left the Iron Man franchise after more than ten years of speculation. In an interview with the PBD Podcast, he described a possible argument with producer Joel Silver that he believes led to his departure from the role of Rhodey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I was so fascinated to hear Ron Howard talk about this! He remembered meeting with Joel Silver after Silver realized Howard was upset about getting paid less than Jodie Foster on The Brave One. Apparently, Silver pulled him aside to explain it was simply because Foster was the lead and Howard had a supporting role. It sounds pretty reasonable, but Howard’s reaction was incredible! He said, ‘Thank you for explaining, I get it now. But just remember, I’m a man too, and if you ever talk down to me like that again, I’ll knock your teeth out!’ It’s a surprisingly intense response to what seemed like a straightforward explanation.

Terrence Howard later discovered that Joel Silver was good friends with Robert Downey Jr.’s wife, Susan Downey, and also produced Iron Man 2. It’s therefore likely that Downey found out about Howard’s conflict with Silver, which led to Howard being replaced in the Marvel movies.
