Following a popular scene in Season 2, Episode 7 of The Pitt, actress Supriya Ganesh discussed the strong fan interest in a potential romantic relationship between her character, Dr. Samira Mohan, and Dr. Jack Abbot (Shawn Hatosy). The idea of a romance between the two doctors first emerged in Season 1, Episode 14, when they collaborated on a challenging surgery involving a gunshot wound. During the operation, which required a pigtail catheter to remove air from the patient’s heart, Dr. Abbot supported Dr. Mohan and defended her decisions, ultimately helping her succeed and earning him the description of a “knight in shining armor”.
The strong connection between the two doctors continued in Season 2 of The Pitt. Dr. Abbot made a return in Episode 7, still wearing his SWAT uniform, bringing in a patient after a robbery went wrong. Dr. Mohan, already worried about one of her uninsured patients with diabetes, rushed to a room only to find Abbot unexpectedly shirtless. This created a charged and intimate moment where Mohan noticed a small bullet wound on his back, and she immediately began to treat him.
While promoting the second season of The Pitt on Good Day LA, Supriya Ganesh clarified the relationship between Dr. Mohan and Dr. Abbot, stating definitively that they are simply “friends.”
“We’re friends, and Shawn is just such a gifted, lovely, giving actor—and director!”
The actor who plays Pitt also hinted that they’re open to exploring a romantic storyline if it fits the narrative, but ultimately, it’s up to the writers to decide whether or not to pursue it.
“We play along when it makes sense for the story, but ultimately it’s up to the writers.”

Ganesh concluded by noting that the word “Mohabbat” in Urdu and Hindi simply means “love.” This suggests a natural connection if the show decides to pair Mohan and Abbot as a couple.
“‘Mohabbat’ in Urdu and Hindi means love! It’s fun the way people have run with it.”
It’s clear that Dr. Mohan and Dr. Abbot have a connection in The Pitt, but Ganesh clarifying they’re just friends likely disappointed fans hoping for a romantic relationship. However, the actress hinted that the writers might still explore this possibility in the future, which is encouraging for those who’d like to see it developed.
I recently read an interview with Ganesh where he mentioned Dr. Mohan is really dedicated to her work at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. It sounds like her career is her main priority right now, so a romantic relationship isn’t really a focus for her at the moment.
Viewers will learn more about Mohan’s story when Season 2 of The Pitt continues with Episode 10, premiering on HBO Max on Thursday, March 12.
Why a Romance Between Dr. Mohan & Dr. Abbot Is a Bad Idea for Now

As a fan, I’ve always seen the dynamic between Dr. Mohan and Dr. Abbot in The Pitt as more of a professional rivalry than a romance. They definitely respect each other’s skills and intelligence, but it’s a clear, straightforward respect – not anything flirty or based on attraction.
Trying to create a romantic relationship between these characters wouldn’t work with the show’s realistic portrayal of avoiding workplace romances. Maintaining that authenticity is key to capturing the stressful and chaotic environment of the emergency room. This commitment to realism is what sets this medical drama apart from shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Chicago Med.
It’s important to consider that Dr. Abbot is a senior staff member, while Dr. Mohan is a resident in their third year. This difference in position could create an awkward and potentially disruptive dynamic at work, given the hospital’s established hierarchy.
