Hideki Kamiya, the director of Resident Evil 2, jokingly pleaded with Capcom to add an easy, non-scary mode to their new game, RE Requiem.
Resident Evil Requiem came out in late February and was a hit with critics. It successfully blended the intense, first-person horror of Resident Evil 7 with the exciting action of Resident Evil 4, creating a game that’s both scary and action-packed.
The game could be frightening for certain players, including Hideki Kamiya, who previously directed games in the series.

RE2 director Hideki Kamiya wants a “not scary” mode for Requiem
Shinji Mikami, the director of the classic Resident Evil 2, says he finds the latest installment in the series too scary to play, despite his significant contributions to the franchise.
Good news for Resident Evil Requiem fans! Director Koshi Nakanishi announced that Photo Mode and a new mini-game will be added in May. Plus, more story content is planned to be released later this year.
Fans reacted with excitement and lots of guesses… but one request from Kamiya really caught everyone’s attention.
I’m seriously hoping they add a ‘not scary mode’! Imagine if the zombies were all adorable, the blood turned into pretty cherry blossoms, and the music became super upbeat and happy. It would be amazing to just enjoy the puzzles and fighting without being scared – a totally fun experience!
I’d like to try the game, but it’s genuinely frightening and now I’m afraid to be alone at night. It’s hard to make myself play because of that. It’s important to consider how others might feel the same way.
I’d really love it if you could create a “not scary mode”! Imagine zombies that are cute instead of frightening, with splashes of flower petals instead of blood. The music could be upbeat and cheerful, so you can just enjoy the puzzles and battles without any fear. I can’t play because it’s too scary and keeps me up at night, and I know others feel the same way. Please consider making it more accessible for those of us who just want to have fun!

Interestingly, Resident Evil 9 doesn’t have a setting to help people afraid of spiders. As a result, some players are making their own changes to the game on computers, replacing the large spider boss with Thomas the Tank Engine instead.
Despite often including frightening elements in his games, Kamiya has said he doesn’t enjoy horror as a genre. He even admits that certain parts, like the ship section in Okami, still creep him out.
I’ve been keeping up with all the RE9 news, and honestly, I was pretty shocked by how upset the developers got about the ending leaks. They even said those who leaked it should “die one thousand deaths” – which is a clear nod to Street Fighter, and kinda intense! It’s definitely a strong reaction, to say the least.
