Tinker Bell, the beloved fairy from Peter Pan, is getting her own live-action TV series.
Disney is developing a live-action series reportedly titled ‘Tink.’ Created by Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter, the show is part of the current wave of live-action remakes, something Disney has been pursuing for Tinker Bell for quite some time.
Tinker Bell first appeared in Disney’s 1953 animated film, Peter Pan, and has since been featured in many other movies and TV shows, including several stories focused on her. Plans for a live-action movie starring Reese Witherspoon began in 2015.
The new series, Tink, will be executive produced by Marsh and comes from Disney’s 20th Television. Writers and executive producers Heldens and Carpenter have a long working relationship, previously collaborating on Friday Night Lights. Quinn Haberman from Heldens’ company, Selfish Mermaid, will also serve as an executive producer.
Disney has a history of reimagining its classic animated movies as live-action films. They have a fantastic library of animated features and often try to update them for modern audiences. Some of these remakes have been very successful, like the 2015 version of Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Lily James. That film earned over $543 million globally on a $95 million budget and was even nominated for an Academy Award for its costumes.
