Elijah Wood could be returning to the Shire in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
In an interview with The Times, Elijah Wood discussed the possibility of reprising his role as Frodo in Andy Serkis’ new film. He stated he’d prefer to play the character himself as long as he’s able, and strongly hinted that he will appear in The Hunt for Gollum.
While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, Ian hinted at the possibility of a new film back in August. I can’t officially say anything until it’s announced, but I’m really excited about it. It’s always a bit stressful when talk of new movies in a beloved world like Middle-earth surfaces – fans are understandably protective and want it to stay true to its roots. However, this story feels really good, exciting, and like the original team is reuniting. I’m just very enthusiastic about the potential.
When asked about Ian McKellen’s statement that he wouldn’t want another actor to play Gandalf, Wood agreed, saying he felt the same way.
No, I understand that sentiment completely. I wouldn’t want anyone else to play Frodo as long as I’m still able to act. And I’m really excited to see the finished films – it’ll be amazing to watch moments like seeing Gandalf’s hat turn in the cinema, just like any other fan. I’m eager to see how it all turns out.
More to come…
