The terrifying question, “Do you want to die, Sidney?” from Ghostface in the movie Scream remains iconic even today. A particularly memorable scene shows Sidney Prescott defending herself at home, with her boyfriend Billy Loomis unexpectedly arriving to help. Neve Campbell’s performance as the “final girl” is legendary, but just two years after the original Scream, she delivered another standout performance in a lesser-known, but highly acclaimed, erotic thriller – arguably one of her best films.
It’s great to see Neve Campbell reprise her role as Sidney in Scream 7, and it reminds us of all her memorable work in the 1990s. Beyond battling Ghostface – even while trying to move on with her life – she starred as the driven Julia Salinger in Party of Five and the thoughtful Bonnie in The Craft. She also delivered a fantastic performance in the 1998 film Wild Things.
Why You Should Watch Neve Campbell’s ‘90s Erotic Thriller ‘Wild Things’

Columbia Pictures
Discovering the identity of each Ghostface killer before watching a Scream movie would ruin the fun, and finding out the major plot twists in Wild Things beforehand would be even worse. The story centers around Suzie Toller (Neve Campbell) and Kelly Van Ryan (Denise Richards), who falsely accuse their guidance counselor, Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon), of sexual assault.
Most people are familiar with the basic story of this movie, but it has a lot more unexpected turns than you might realize. It’s well-known for a steamy scene involving a kiss between Suzie and Kelly in a pool, and yes, it definitely lives up to that reputation.
Neve Campbell’s performance in Wild Things is particularly noteworthy, and it’s arguably one of her most compelling roles outside of the popular Scream movies. While the film features strong performances from Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon, and Denise Richards, Campbell truly shines, bringing a lot of depth to her character. Wild Things is a fun and twisty story about secrets and lies in a Florida town, and Campbell’s work really elevates it. She consistently delivers engaging and memorable performances, and besides Wild Things, The Craft, and the Scream series, it’s difficult to name many other films that have truly resonated with audiences. Her passionate performance in the 2003 drama The Company showcases her ballet background, but it hasn’t achieved the same iconic status.
Suzie is a character you can’t help but notice. Compared to Kelly, who fits the typical ‘spoiled rich girl’ mold and sometimes feels underdeveloped, Suzie is much more engaging. Her difficult upbringing makes her unique, and despite facing challenges with addiction and being underestimated by others, she has strong self-belief. You might not always agree with what she does – in fact, you probably often won’t – but you always understand where she’s coming from.
People often talk about the intimate scenes in this movie, but it’s also a great showcase of Campbell’s acting ability. She’s proven she can play a wide range of characters, like the villain Raven in Twisted Metal Season 1, and her performance as Suzie is one of her best. It’s also fascinating to think about how Suzie and Sidney are similar. While Suzie hasn’t faced the same decades-long threat as Sidney, she’s also lived through a lot of trauma and is a surprisingly resilient character.
Why ‘Wild Things’ Is Just As Great In 2026

Columbia Pictures
As someone who’s followed horror for years, I’ve always appreciated when a slasher flick tries to say something deeper. We talk a lot about how Scream isn’t just about the kills, but also deals with things like love, loss, and family. Well, Wild Things tackles just as much emotional weight, even if it’s wrapped in a pretty cheesy package. Re-watching it now, in 2026, it’s clear there’s more going on beneath the surface than just the scandalous plot – it’s actually surprisingly thoughtful.

Okay, so for the first half of Wild Things, you’re really grappling with some heavy stuff – messed up relationships and the whole issue of consent, which sadly still feels super relevant today. Then, once everything starts to unravel, the movie dives into the complicated connections between Suzie, Kelly, Ray, and Sam, revealing all their hidden secrets, what drives them, and what they’re really afraid of. Honestly, it’s a pretty wild ride! It’s true, the movie throws a lot at you and jumps around in terms of mood – and get ready for a ton of twists! But I did find Suzie’s journey, even amidst all the chaos, surprisingly compelling.
A truly captivating erotic thriller doesn’t always require characters you actually like, though it can certainly add to the experience. In the beginning of Wild Things, the film wants you to feel for Suzie and Kelly – no one wants to see them suffer. However, the story has layers, and Suzie is more complex than she initially appears. While she might not be the most sympathetic character, she’s just as compelling as Sidney. If you haven’t seen Wild Things, now’s the time! And hopefully, we’ll get to see more amazing performances from Campbell in the future.
