A surprising moment in Season 2 was the appearance of former President Bill Clinton, created using artificial intelligence. This decision proved controversial and led to some negative reactions online.
I was really surprised to learn it was Seth MacFarlane playing Bill Clinton in that scene! He’s done the voice of Clinton on Family Guy before, but this was the first time he actually played him on screen, in live-action. He recently explained that they ended up using AI to make the transformation work. Apparently, they tried doing it with practical effects and regular CGI first, but it just didn’t look believable, so AI was their final solution.
Prosthetics and CGI Looked Too Terrifying
Seth MacFarlane has been doing his Bill Clinton impression since the beginning of Family Guy. He explained that AI proved to be a helpful tool in bringing the impression to life without negatively impacting the show’s overall artistry. They initially attempted to create the look using prosthetics and traditional CGI, but everything looked frightening. Ultimately, they decided to try AI, and it worked perfectly – it was the only way to realistically portray Bill Clinton.
The scene received a lot of negative reactions on social media. One user compared it to the special effects in Terminator 2, criticizing Hollywood for becoming less realistic. Another worried that AI will eventually replace actors and the need for real movie sets. A commenter on X even said they were removing the show from their watchlist.
The Ted Prequel Series Isn’t Getting a Season 3
If you were concerned about the show Ted using AI, you likely won’t have to worry about it again. Seth MacFarlane has stated there are no current plans for a third season of the Peacock series. However, the story isn’t over – a new animated series continuing after the events of the movies is in the works. Because animation offers more flexibility, they’re less likely to need to use AI for the sequel.
The Ted franchise began in 2012 with the first movie. Seth MacFarlane provided the voice for Ted, a special teddy bear who came to life when a boy wished upon a shooting star. The movie follows Mark Wahlberg as that now-grown man, who remains best friends with the foul-mouthed bear. Their adventures continued in Ted 2, the 2015 sequel.
