Despite the success of his recent series, MobLand, fans are still eagerly awaiting news about a second season of his earlier crime drama, Taboo. They haven’t lost hope for a continuation of the story.

Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, developed the series alongside Tom Hardy and his father, Chip. Although Peaky Blinders is his most acclaimed work, Knight is also aware of the success of Taboo. He recently discussed the future of Taboo during a question-and-answer session on Reddit.

Knight recently shared positive news about Season 2, confirming that the series is still in development and they have a concept in mind. He explained that he and Tom have an idea they’re excited about, and they’re waiting for schedules to align so they can begin work on it.

Taboo Is a Sleeper Hit

The series Taboo first aired on BBC One in the UK on January 7, 2017, and on FX in the U.S. on January 10th. It was quickly renewed in March of that year, but a second season has not yet been released.

Taboo centers on James Keziah Delaney, a businessman and adventurer who unexpectedly returns to London in 1814 after being presumed dead. He’s back to claim his father’s shipping empire, but quickly finds himself facing powerful enemies determined to make his life miserable.

The film features a talented cast including Leo Bill, Jessie Buckley, Oona Chaplin, Mark Gatiss, Jonathan Pryce, and Jefferson Hall, as well as other skilled actors.

Since the first Venom movie came out, Tom Hardy has played the popular anti-hero in three films, with the latest being Venom: The Last Dance in 2024. He then appeared in the Netflix action movie Havoc in 2025 and the successful Paramount+ series MobLand, which is set to continue.

The film has been well-received by critics, earning a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating and a 76% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many reviewers highlighted the intriguing mystery, compelling story, and Tom Hardy’s excellent performance. Audiences also loved it, giving it a 91% approval rating.

Taboo is streaming on Peacock and Prime Video, as well as for free on Tubi and Pluto TV.
