Star Wars actor says Disney dropped Boba Fett over “stupid” comments

It doesn’t look like Boba Fett will be appearing in any new shows or movies for a while. According to Temuera Morrison, Disney and Lucasfilm have put the character on hold after he made some ill-advised public statements.

Temuera Morrison originally played Jango Fett in 2002’s Attack of the Clones. He later returned to the Star Wars story in 2020 as Boba Fett in Season 2 of The Mandalorian – as Boba is a clone of Jango.

So, a year after The Mandalorian, I jumped into ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ on Disney+. It’s all about Boba trying to take control of the criminal underworld on Tatooine, which is pretty cool. He’s got Fennec Shand, played by Ming-Na Wen, backing him up, and a bunch of other familiar faces from the Star Wars universe helping out too.

Since then, Boba Fett hasn’t appeared in any Star Wars stories, and it’s all because of some careless remarks made by actor Jeremy Bulloch at a fan event.

Lucasfilm told Temuera Morrison Boba Fett is “on the shelf”

So, back in 2025, I was at Tampa Bay Comic-Con and Temuera Morrison – the guy who played Boba Fett – was trying to get us fans to campaign for the character to come back in a live-action show or movie. He jokingly told us to ‘send a fax, or a letter or an email’ to Disney and Lucasfilm. Honestly, it caused a bit of a stir and he ended up getting in trouble with them for it!

Morrison explained to Inverse that he was just kidding around at a convention when he made the comments. He said Lucasfilm then contacted him, letting him know his character, Boba Fett, was being temporarily sidelined, but there was a possibility he might return in the future.

Even though the show didn’t get the four seasons I was really hoping for, I’m still incredibly proud of the work I did on Boba Fett. Honestly, working with Ming-Na Wen made me feel like this was it – that we were building something special that could last for seasons two, three, and four! But even though things turned out differently, we all had a fantastic time, and I was truly honored to be brought back to the Star Wars universe after all these years. It was a really amazing experience.

Morrison acknowledged he’s fortunate to be recognized as the primary face of the clone troopers in Star Wars, saying he doesn’t really have anything to complain about. He also remains optimistic about a possible return as Boba Fett, playfully comparing himself to a jar of peaches – put away for now, but ready to be even better when the time comes.

Lucasfilm hasn’t said if Boba Fett will be back, but with a major crossover featuring Grand Admiral Thrawn on the horizon, many fans believe it would be a mistake to leave him out.
