Get ready for the Oscars! The 98th Academy Awards are almost here, celebrating the best films of 2025. This will be the last time you can watch the show on traditional TV – after this year, it’s moving to YouTube. After a year of smaller, independent films taking the spotlight, this year’s awards seem to be a competition between two major releases from Warner Bros.: One Battle After Another and Sinners. With David Ellison about to take ownership of Warner Bros., he’s likely very pleased with their chances.

What movies are nominated?
Ryan Coogler’s film Sinners leads the nominations this year with an unprecedented 16 nods – more than any other film in history. Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another is close behind with 13 nominations. Chloé Zhao (Hamnet), Josh Safdie (Marty Supreme), and Joachim Trier (Sentimental Value) will join Coogler and Anderson in the competition for Best Director. The films nominated for Best Picture also include Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Train Dreams, and The Secret Agent.
Who is hosting?
Conan O’Brien is hosting the Oscars for the second time. Everyone is wondering if he’ll finally bring his longtime assistant, Sona Movsesian, up on stage with him this year.
Who is presenting?
The ceremony’s first confirmed presenters are last year’s acting winners: Mikey Madison (from Anora), Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Zoë Saldaña (Emilia Peréz), and Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain). They usually present awards in acting categories to winners of the opposite gender.
Joining the list of confirmed presenters are Academy Award winner Javier Bardem, along with Demi Moore and Kumail Nanjiani, who have been nominated previously. They’ll be presenting alongside popular actors Chris Evans, Chase Infiniti, and Maya Rudolph.
When is the ceremony and how can you watch it?
The Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 15th. The live red-carpet pre-show starts at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time, followed by the awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Eastern. You can watch it live on ABC and Hulu. Hopefully, the broadcast will run smoothly this year.
