Better Call Saul star reveals he is now an Amazon driver as “industry has dried up”

So, I just read this crazy thing – an actor from Better Call Saul is now delivering packages for Amazon! He said he had to make the switch because, honestly, there just isn’t much work in the acting world right now. It’s a tough break, but he’s gotta do what he’s gotta do, right? It’s kinda wild to think someone who was on a show I loved is now bringing packages to people’s doors.

Many people consider Better Call Saul to be one of the most captivating shows to watch all the way through, right up there with Breaking Bad.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, this show is a prequel that follows Jimmy McGill – played by Bob Odenkirk – as he slowly becomes the shady lawyer Saul Goodman. It’s awesome because you see how he ends up getting involved with Walter White from Breaking Bad later on.

Better Call Saul not only launched Rhea Seehorn’s career – she now stars in the Apple TV thriller Pluribus – but it also highlighted the unpredictable nature of success in Hollywood. While the show was a hit, one actor recently shared that his part didn’t lead to steady acting work, and he’s now delivering packages for Amazon to earn a living.

John Christian Love played Ernie in Better Call Saul

John Christian Love portrayed Ernie in Better Call Saul, appearing in the first four seasons as a friend and coworker of Jimmy’s at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill. Viewers remember him as a dedicated employee who always tried to help both Jimmy and his brother, Chuck (Michael McKean).

John Christian Love, the actor who played Ernesto/Ernie on Better Call Saul, recently shared on Reddit that he’s currently working as an Amazon delivery driver. He posted in the r/AmazonDSPDrivers forum to let fellow drivers know he’s one of them, saying, “Just want y’all to know that as the actor who brought you the character ‘Ernesto/Ernie’… I too am out here delivering with you!”

Throughout the online discussion, he shared that while he sought more acting roles after the show ended, opportunities have been scarce. He’s decided to create his own projects because he’s frustrated with waiting for others to give him the go-ahead. Though he’s not abandoning acting altogether, he admitted Better Call Saul didn’t launch his career as much as he’d hoped.

After fans asked if he was receiving payments from the show, Love posted a screenshot of his residuals, which showed very small amounts scheduled to be paid between 2025 and 2026. He explained, “I’d be honest, if I was getting paid, I wouldn’t be working at Amazon. But these are the actual residuals I’m receiving.”

He shared that he’d been cast in the independent film Lone Wolf alongside Bryan Cranston and Lily Gladstone, but unfortunately, the production ran out of funding and he never received payment for his work.

In July 2025, Deadline announced the thriller was short $2 million, and several people working on the film – including crew, actors, and suppliers – hadn’t received payment. As a result, Bryan Cranston stopped working on the movie and wouldn’t promote it until everyone on the crew was paid.

It’s become clear that the necessary funds haven’t been secured. Actor Bryan Cranston stated to Deadline that he – and his wife, Lily – refuse to promote the film until all cast and crew members are fully paid. They also won’t resume filming until this happens.

Love also noted that while his union, SAG-AFTRA, is currently in arbitration regarding the Lone Wolf situation, most legal professionals give the same answer when asked about pursuing legal action: they question whether it’s worth going after a company with no money, especially since the producers have already filed for bankruptcy.
