Christian Bale drew a comparison between the monster in the new movie The Bride! and Punch, the baby monkey who recently became a viral sensation online.
In an interview with BuzzFeed UK, Bale explained that the famous monster surprisingly shares an emotional connection with the young monkey whose story has gone viral.
In the interview, Bale pointed out that Frankenstein’s Monster, much like the popular puppet Punch, is motivated by a basic desire for connection and understanding.
According to Bale, Frankenstein’s Monster simply needs someone to share his company, even if that person doesn’t say a word.
You know, watching him, it’s just heartbreaking. He seems so lonely, like a little monkey all alone in a lab. It reminds me of that old Punch and Judy show, with Punch and the orangutan – he just needs a companion! That’s what Frank believes, that’s all he’s missing – someone to be with.
A baby macaque named Punch has become popular online thanks to heartwarming videos from the Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan. The videos show Punch cuddling a stuffed orangutan, which zookeepers gave him after his mother left him.

The heartwarming video spread rapidly online, and people everywhere were captivated by Punch – a tiny dog with a sweet face and a strong bond with his favorite stuffed animal from IKEA.
Researchers, including a professor from Oxford University, have also offered explanations for why Punch’s story resonates with us so powerfully.
Christian Bale made the comparison while talking about his new film, The Bride!, a fresh take on the classic Frankenstein story. Bale will play Frankenstein’s monster in the movie, which is directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Jake Gyllenhaal’s take on the story boasts a star-studded cast, with Jessie Buckley playing the Bride, Peter Sarsgaard as Detective Jake Wiles, Penelope Cruz as Myrna Mallow, and Christian Bale portraying the heartbreaking monster. The film, titled ‘The Bride!’, is scheduled for release in theaters on March 6, 2026.
