A film based on Game of Thrones is reportedly in development at Warner Bros. Beau Willimon, known for his work on the show Andor, is writing the screenplay.
Despite a disappointing final season, the world created by George R.R. Martin has found new life with recent successes. The series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was incredibly popular, and the upcoming third season of House of the Dragon promises the intense conflict fans have been hoping for.
Martin recently revealed a new Game of Thrones prequel will be a stage play focusing on The Mad King and the events surrounding the tourney at Harrenhal, which ultimately sparked Robert’s Rebellion. It’s scheduled to premiere in the UK.
If you believed the main storyline was over, you might be surprised. A recent report suggests we’ll be returning to Westeros, but this time as a movie series.

Beau Willimon, known for his work on House of Cards and Andor, is writing the script for the movie. Although details about the actors and storyline are still under wraps, sources confirm the project is actively being developed.
Instead of continuing the story directly after the controversial Season 8 finale, Warner Bros. might choose to create a new, separate story set in the world of Westeros. Continuing with Jon Snow’s story, exploring the consequences of Daenerys Targaryen’s actions, or focusing on King Bran’s rule could be risky given the divided reactions to how the original series ended.
Page Six Hollywood first reported the news, indicating the upcoming story might center on Aegon I Targaryen. He was the Targaryen king who united the Seven Kingdoms and started the dynasty that would rule Westeros for many years.
Fans are hopeful about the possibility of a new project, with one commenting that they desperately need it after the show’s finale. Another fan pointed out that Beau Willimon, known for his work on ‘Andor’ and ‘House of Cards’, would be a perfect fit for a ‘Game of Thrones’ movie due to his talent for political drama.
One viewer expressed excitement and hoped to see content beyond Season 8. Another Redditor shared a cautiously optimistic outlook, suggesting potential storylines like Robert’s Rebellion or the original conquest, which could be adapted into a shorter series.
