Leslye Headland, the creator of the now-canceled Star Wars show The Acolyte, has shared plans for how the show would have developed the character of Yoda in future seasons. She explained that Season 2 would have revealed a hidden side to the Jedi Master – his ability to explore the dark side of the Force. Yoda briefly appears at the end of Season 1 when Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh seeks his advice.
Leslye Headland confirms that Star Wars: The Acolyte Season 2 would have shown Yoda’s dark side
The co-creator of Russian Doll recently discussed the new series, The Acolyte, explaining some of its ideas and key plot details.
On The George Lucas Talk Show, Patrick Cotnoir questioned Leslye Headland about whether Yoda might assist Vernestra Rwoh in concealing some of the Jedi Order’s more dubious deeds during the second season.
Headland confirmed that Yoda would have revealed a darker side by backing Rwoh’s attempt to make Sol – who Osha killed after he confessed to murdering her mother – responsible for the deaths of Indara, Torbin, Kelnacca, Jecki, and Yord. He would have also helped Rwoh portray Sol as a renegade Jedi to shield the Jedi Council from investigation by the Galactic Senate, and covered up the involvement of her former apprentice, Qimir, after she told him the truth.
The experienced writer explained that Yoda speaks in a way that hints at future events, and asked fans not to criticize her online, pointing out that this writing style was also used in The Clone Wars series.
Leslye Headland is right to suggest that Yoda acted questionably in The Clone Wars. The Jedi, including Yoda, didn’t investigate the origins of the clone army thoroughly. This oversight proved critical, as it allowed Palpatine to ultimately destroy the Jedi Order with Order 66. By blindly accepting and using the clones in battle, they missed vital clues and set themselves up for failure.
After Barriss Offee falsely accused Ahsoka Tano of bombing a Jedi temple, Yoda and the Jedi Council expelled her from the Order without fully investigating whether she was actually innocent.
When Barriss Offee was discovered, convicted, and jailed for her actions, the Jedi Council attempted to excuse everything as a trial sent by the Force. But Ahsoka didn’t believe their explanation and, feeling let down by Yoda and the Jedi Order, she decided to leave.
Thus, had The Acolyte received another season, it could have potentially explored Yoda’s dark side.
