Bruce Campbell, 67, is famous for his role as Ash Williams in the Evil Dead movies and TV series. He starred as Ash in the Starz show Ash vs Evil Dead from 2015 to 2018.
After the show ended, Bruce Campbell stopped playing Ash because the physically demanding role – especially all the stunt work involving chainsaws and fighting monsters – became too much. The Evil Dead franchise has continued with new installments like 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, and another film, Evil Dead Burn, is planned for 2026, but Campbell will only be involved behind the scenes as an executive producer.

He even apologized for the news being a surprise – and honestly, it was a shock to me too!
Bruce Campbell is well-known for attending fan conventions across the US, thanks to his popular roles in films like Evil Dead and Spider-Man. However, he’s announced he will be pausing these appearances. He explained that he needs to prioritize his health and treatment, which means putting his convention appearances and other work on hold for now.
The actor’s upcoming film, a comedy called Ernie & Emma, tells the story of a man traveling to special places to scatter his late wife’s ashes, prompting him to reflect on their life together. He shared that he’s focusing on recovery this summer so he can begin promoting the movie later in the year.
He thanked his fans for their support and assured them he’s doing well, saying he’s strong and has a great team around him, so he plans to continue working for a long time.
