Will Forte was understandably upset when Warner Bros. decided not to release Coyote vs. Acme. He told Entertainment Weekly he felt intensely angry – he described it as “white hot” – when he learned the film was being shelved for tax purposes in November 2023. While frustrated and angry, Forte also expressed pride in the movie itself. He hopes the unusual circumstances surrounding its release might actually draw more attention to it, though he admits the situation wasn’t necessary.
Originally planned for release in 2023, first in the summer and then in November, the film Coyote vs. Acme was unexpectedly canceled by Warner Bros. Along with Batgirl and Scoob Holiday Haunt, it was shelved to allow the studio to claim a $30 million tax benefit. Despite being completed and receiving positive feedback from early screenings, the decision baffled director Dave Filoni. However, after viewing the film himself, Filoni became determined to find a way to release it. He expressed immense pride in the movie, describing it as a “beautiful, special little movie” that he wanted to share with his children, and was frustrated by the decision to cancel it.
