So, TwitchCon San Diego was a hot topic, and honestly, it was a bit worrying to hear that big streamers like Valkyrae and QTCinderella were actually scared to go. Well, Dan Clancy, the CEO of Twitch, actually addressed those safety concerns directly. It’s good to see he’s responding to what streamers are saying and hopefully making things better.
TwitchCon, a major annual event for streamers and fans, takes place in San Diego, California from October 17th to 19th. However, two prominent members of the Twitch community are choosing not to attend due to safety concerns.
During a September 2025 podcast episode of “Wine About It,” hosted by Valkyrae and QTCinderella and featuring Pokimane as a guest, the hosts shared their worries about security at the event.
Rae shared that she was hesitant about attending TwitchCon. She explained she’d been feeling really anxious, scared, and down all week because of recent events.
QT admitted they were facing a tricky situation. They need to both record their “Wine About It” show live and attend TwitchCon, which they appreciate for its support. They’ve already let the TwitchCon team know they’re feeling stressed and a little overwhelmed right now.
“Respectfully, I don’t feel irrational about it,” she continued. “I feel very scared.”
During a podcast, QT mentioned the tragic murder of Japanese streamer Airi Sato. Sato was stabbed and killed during a live stream in March 2025 by someone described as a “hater” or “anti-fan,” according to reports from Japanese news sources.
This year has seen numerous alarming incidents targeting female streamers. For example, in March 2025, Valkyrae, Emiru, and Cinna were threatened with violence by a man after Emiru declined to share her phone number with him during a live broadcast from Santa Monica Pier.
In the same month, Amouranth’s home was invaded by three armed robbers. Her husband fired a weapon after they demanded access to her cryptocurrency wallet.
Twitch CEO addresses streamers’ safety concerns
On September 24th, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy spoke directly to worries about safety at the event, promising attendees that creating a safe experience was their top priority.
Let me state this plainly: we prioritize security at all our events, including TwitchCon. Each year, we improve our safety and security measures, especially as we learn about new potential risks and challenges.
We have dedicated teams working year-round to ensure the safety of creators and our community, both on Twitch and at TwitchCon events. We have clear guidelines for attendees, and anyone permanently banned from Twitch for violating our rules is not permitted to attend TwitchCon.
Clancy stated that TwitchCon has a strict policy against harassment and assured everyone he’s working hard to ensure the event is safe and well-managed.
So far, Valkyrae, QT, and Pokimane haven’t publicly reacted to Clancy’s statements. These comments arrive as influencers are increasingly worried about safety when attending in-person events.
