Fans were excited to learn earlier this month that the first three God of War games are getting remastered, bringing Kratos’s adventures in Ancient Greece to current consoles. While many discovered the series with the 2018 God of War reboot and its 2022 sequel, God of War Ragnarök, this will allow a new generation to experience the original games.
Before Kratos journeyed through the world of Norse mythology as a father, he was a fierce Spartan warrior who battled the powerful Greek gods. Now, you can experience his original story with the remastered God of War Trilogy.
Is The God Of War Trilogy Coming To PlayStation 6?
Okay, so at the recent PlayStation showcase, T.C. Carson – the original voice of Kratos – announced some awesome news! They’re remastering the first three God of War games – God of War, God of War II, and God of War III – to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary. It’s still early in development, but it looks like we won’t be able to play them until at least 2027. I’m already hyped!
Early responses to the game were great, suggesting Santa Monica Studio had another success, especially considering all the anticipation they built for it. Now that the initial buzz has faded, though, many fans are wondering if a remastered collection of the original God of War trilogy will come to PlayStation 5, or if it will only be available on the next console, the PlayStation 6.
A user on the God of War subreddit believes the rumored God of War trilogy remake won’t be released on the PS5. They suggest it’s being developed for Sony’s next console, the PS6, because game development takes at least two years, and PlayStation generations typically last 7-8 years. Considering the PS5 is already six years old, they think skipping a PS5 release and aiming for the PS6 makes the most sense.
Either Way, We’re In For A Long Wait
It’s still unclear which consoles the God of War Trilogy Remastered will be released on, as development is just beginning. But my guess is it will definitely come to PlayStation 5, and likely also to whatever the newest console is at that time—even if that means the PlayStation 6 is already out. Considering around 49 million people still use the PlayStation 4 as of late 2024/2025, older consoles are still popular, and I don’t think Sony will abandon the PlayStation 5 immediately when the PS6 launches.
We’ll still have to wait a while for the release of the God of War Trilogy Remastered. But with many fans saying they never got to play the original games back in the early 2000s, this remastered version is a great way for them to discover Kratos’s beginnings.
