Tour guide arrested after drawing on Pyramid and trying to rub it off

An Egyptian tour guide was arrested for vandalizing the Great Pyramids of Giza. He scratched a drawing onto the stone while giving a tour and then attempted to erase it.

When you visit historical places or religious sites, you’re usually asked not to touch anything. This is to protect fragile, old objects from damage, and to prevent anyone from attempting to take something – like a scene from a movie!

If you’re a tour guide at a place like this, you really need to be familiar with the rules.

In Egypt, a tour guide was arrested at the Giza Pyramids after writing on the ancient structure while attempting to explain its history to his group.

Tour guide “damaged” pyramids with drawings

A tour guide was filmed drawing on the side of a pyramid while explaining things to his group, and the video has caused a lot of criticism online.

Police in Egypt announced the arrest of a suspect who admitted to drawing on the outer base of a historical site, causing some damage. Authorities stated they have begun legal proceedings against the individual, according to a post on X.

The Ministry of Interior stated that officials had taken down the drawings after a local antiquities inspector reported them.

An investigation was launched after a video circulated on social media showed a tour guide drawing on the wall of an archaeological site in Giza while explaining it to a group of tourists. The investigation began when an inspector at the Saqqara archaeological site reported the incident to the police, identifying the guide from the video.

It’s very difficult to get inside the Pyramids, particularly if you don’t have a tour guide or the necessary permits.

MrBeast, the popular YouTuber, filmed at the Pyramids of Giza for 100 hours in early 2025 and had hoped to record a podcast with Joe Rogan while there. Unfortunately, Rogan wasn’t able to join him.

I was talking to him the other day, and he had this amazing idea! He imagined us doing a podcast right on top of the pyramid – not like, at the base, but actually on the very tip, as if it were just his desk. I thought it sounded incredible! Of course, you can’t actually climb up there, so we’d have needed a helicopter to get us up there. It would have been such a cool location!
