Johnny Knoxville has shared what’s next for the Jackass franchise after the release of Jackass 5. The original Jackass TV show premiered 26 years ago and launched a popular series of movies, including Jackass Forever, which came out in February 2022. Fans were surprised in January 2026 when Knoxville announced a fifth movie, Jackass 5, set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Johnny Knoxville announced that Jackass 5 will be the final installment in the series. The movie will feature both newly filmed stunts and previously unused footage from the franchise’s history. Knoxville explained that this feels like the right time to wrap things up, promising fans a predictably wild and over-the-top experience: “This is the natural place to end. So it’s going to be absolutely awful.”
In an interview on the Books that Changed My Life Podcast, Knoxville explained he has to be cautious when performing stunts. He stated he’s already suffered too many concussions and can’t risk another head injury, but is otherwise willing to take risks. He specifically said, “I can’t get hit in the head anymore.”
The History of the ‘Jackass’ Franchise

The TV show Jackass first aired on MTV on October 1, 2000, and continued for three seasons, ending in August 2001. It quickly became a cultural hit thanks to its repeated broadcasts and the cast’s wild and risky stunts, launching Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn, Chris Pontius, Dave England, Danger Ehren, Preston Lacy, and Wee Man to fame. In October 2002, Jackass: The Movie was released in theaters and became a financial success, earning $79.5 million despite only costing $5 million to make.
As a huge fan, I’ve followed the Jackass movies since the beginning. After the first one, they released Jackass: Number Two in 2006, and then Jackass 3D in 2010, which actually became the most successful film in the series, earning a massive $171 million worldwide on a $20 million budget. Sadly, Jackass 3D turned out to be the last film featuring Ryan Durst, as he tragically passed away in a car accident in 2011. They then tried something different with the spin-off Jackass: Bad Grandpa in 2013, and more recently, Jackass Forever came out in 2022. It was tough to hear that Bam Margera wasn’t involved in Jackass Forever due to his struggles with addiction, but hopefully he’s doing better now.

After a 12-year break, Jackass Forever was presented as a farewell to fans, but it turned out to be a huge success, earning $80.5 million worldwide. This was especially remarkable because people were just starting to return to movie theaters after the COVID-19 pandemic. Surprisingly, the film also received good reviews from critics, boasting an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, after years of being dismissed. It’s no surprise, then, that the Jackass crew decided to make another movie.
