How to Get Fur and Wool in Starsand Island

Okay, so Starsand Island is loaded with stuff you can craft with, which is awesome. Most of the materials are pretty easy to find, but a few take some effort. Like, getting iron ore isn’t super simple – you’ll need to put in some time and you definitely need the right tool for the job.

Okay, so if you’re like me and want to make your own clothes in the game, you’re gonna need to figure out how to get wool and fur. Seriously, you need these materials – they’re used to make pretty much every type of cloth in the game!

Here’s a guide to getting wool and fur on Starsand Island, including how to change their colors with dyes.

How to Get Wool

You’ll encounter wool early on in Starsand Island as one of the first materials you collect. But first, be sure to begin the rancher’s questline.

You’ll get this questline from Pastelle, who you can find at the Green Pasture Ranch, northwest of your house. Your first task is to build a home and provide food for some baby rabbits.

On Starsand Island, rabbits are how you get wool. To collect it, you’ll need to build a rabbit hutch, house rabbits inside, and keep them fed.

Your rabbits will naturally grow wool that you can collect from their hutches. They don’t produce a lot at once, so having more than one hutch with rabbits will help you gather wool faster.

Young rabbits consistently produce standard wool. As they grow into adults, they’ll give you both standard and higher-quality wool. Eventually, you can also get Snowools from your ranch, which only yield black and white wool.

How to Get Fur

Fur is made similarly to wool, but it comes from different animals, mainly cows. When you examine a fur item in your inventory, it will indicate it’s from a large animal.

You need to reach Intermediate Rancher level before you can get cows or build a barn for them. Once you reach that level, you’ll be able to buy cows at the ranch and construct the barn.

Animal fur can be found inside the cattle barn, and it collects just like wool does in a rabbit hutch.

Stealing Wool and Fur

You can also obtain wool and fur by stealing, though it’s not the most reliable method. You can steal from the Green Pasture Ranch without facing any penalties.

Simply enter the ranch and check the animal pens for glowing objects. If you see something sparkling, you can interact with it to take it.

Gathering wool or fur this way only yields a small amount at a time, making it less profitable than raising your own animals. However, it’s a good option if you just need a couple of extra pieces for a project.

How to Get Colored Fur and Wool

You might have noticed recipes asking for colored fabrics, often made with dyed furs and wool. However, it’s currently impossible to dye wool or fur on Starsand Island.

To get different colored wool and fur, you’ll need to explore bio research and find animals with color. Just like white snowools give you white wool and black snowools give you black wool, other colored animals will produce wool and fur in their respective colors.

The simplest way to find colorful animals is through the Islandpedia app by discovering new species. Fishing is a quick method, but you can also find them by catching bugs like bees.

After you identify 72 different species, you’ll unlock colorful sheep! You can also breed animals to get different colors, but the results are random, so it might take some time to get the color you want.
