Watch: Road collapse in Omaha leaves vehicles stranded inside sinkhole

A section of road in Omaha, Nebraska, suddenly gave way on Tuesday afternoon, creating a sinkhole that trapped two cars and forced the temporary closure of nearby traffic.

Around 3:30 p.m. on February 24th, police were called to the area of 67th and Pacific Street in the Aksarben neighborhood, according to Omaha Police Department Officer Sarah Martier in a statement to PEOPLE.

When officers responded to the scene, they discovered two cars had fallen into a large sinkhole near the intersection.

Both drivers got out of their vehicles safely after the pickup truck fell into a sinkhole. The driver of the silver Dodge Ram climbed out on their own, and with help from people nearby, the driver of the maroon Jeep was also rescued. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Two vehicles removed after sinkhole crash

Pictures from the site showed both cars tilted upwards near the edge of the sinkhole after the road collapsed. Police confirmed that both vehicles were later removed and towed.

After the incident, officials announced that Pacific Street was closed to traffic between 66th and 69th Streets. However, 67th Street remained open to drivers heading both north and south while work continued nearby.

A video of the sinkhole quickly spread online after a camera at the University of Nebraska, focused on the intersection, captured the footage.
